Most unique Styx experience I've ever had!!!

Postby masque » Mon Aug 13, 2012 11:29 pm

Had an awesome adventure on Friday night. Styx was blowing through a small town (Corbin, KY) on their way to Pittsburgh the next night to play. The festival in KY was called the NIBROC.......and it's just a small town thing where they block off all the streets downtown for a few days and have a local party.

A good friend of mine owns and operates a regional/national sound and lighting company that has grown into a powerhouse over the past ten years or so and his company was hired to do the sound and lighting. He's provided the sound and lighting for many well known acts over the years. Plus he's a big Styx fan..

So he called me up and said to come on over (which I was going anyway) but that he wanted me and my wife to be his personal guests backstage! So we went and had a blast. Got to lurk around all over....went up on stage and checked out all of the stage gear....talked to various people on the crew.....hung out near the bus, I could hear the guys jamming and warming up but didnt want to be "that guy" and just kept my distance and let them do their thing.

Once the show started we were able to stand directly in front of Tommy between the stage and the barricade from the crowd. we were literally less than 10 feet from the front of the stage all night. the crowd was pumped and very enthusiastic......probably a little over 5000 in attendance and I think the band was genuinely pleased with the reception they got all night long......Tommy and JY both seemed in great moods and looked to be having the time of their lives.

Another cool aspect was that I got to be "in the loop" on the aspects of their contract, what they got paid etc..... i wont discuss any of that on here because my buddy was very instrumental in bringing them in and I dont want to share his business on the net.....but they got paid very well for a "crossover" date between larger gigs.....all they did was show up with their stage gear and play for 90 minutes......the pay was pretty much inline with the discussions that have taken place on here before.

the band was on fire and although the set was as has been discussed on here they played and sounded great! all in all a wonderful night.
