On November 8th (Thursday) I will be taking my 12 year old to her first Styx concert. I remember wanting to see Styx at her age but my parents not allowing it (too young). But this time I will go with her. I know it's not the Styx of my youth, but I think it's going to be a big experience. Laura is a HUGE Styx fan. She asked me via text two weeks ago to make her a compilation disc to listen to at her mother's house.

I only wish I could get her back stage to meet Tommy. Very proud of my little girl. This will be our second concert. I'm hoping to foster a love for concerts and music and give us some memories to build on as she gets into her teenage years, knowing I don't have a lot of years left where she'll want to go to things like concerts and conventions with her dad.

I'm looking forward to it really. I've not seen Styx (this incarnation) since Brave New World. I will set aside my bias and just enjoy the music. Isn't that what it's all about?

I'm in the exact same boat/frame of mind. Taking my 2 boys (12 & 14) to their first rock show Sunday night in Reading, PA. Same story and attitude going in (except I haven't seen Styx since the EOTC tour). Hoping they play a decent set list. Wife is going too, although I don't think she's really looking forward to it.

I hope you put she cares on that comp disc Anyway both of you enjoy the show. They played
pieces of eight/aku aku the other night so you guys might get the same set. I have to wait
all the way till new years weekend to see them again Be sure to post a review you guys.

After the show if yu can get out to where the bus is You may have to wait a little while but it is so worth it.I see them the next nite can't wait.

I managed to drag mine along to a few.It was lots of fun.
First show Scorpions.He was 8 or 9.Just watching.
Nickleback,(his choice) at 9 ish.He brought a friend.
Not much of a Nickba fan myself and not a hater either.
Show was fun,but the most fun was watching my son and his bud.
They were mimicking everybody elses air guitar ,fists in the air,drums and what have you .A riot.
But these days as a 12 year old,my music is shit, and he is into hip-hop and the R and B shit that the punks are listening to these days.
Fair enough.It is still fun to watch how things evolve.

I have taken my kids( 13(daughter) & 10(son)) to numerous concerts from Styx X 3, to Journey/ Heart/Cheap Trick to the more recent rock shows of Dream Theater and Shinedown/Adelitas Way.

After attending the Dream Theater show this summer I have come to a conclusion about rock bands in general. That conclusion is that most of them are the absolute nicest people that you will ever meet and they surround themselves with more of the same.

Every band member in Dream Theater went out of their way to notice, smile or give my daughter a small token. The lead singer of Shinedown sang the song 45 to her and when one of their songs called for the F word he put his hand over his mouth sang it and smiled at her. After the show we waited around and every band member signed something for her. While waiting the lead singer of Adelitas Way came over and talked to her, took pictures brought her a coke from a nearby resturant and introduced her to everyone in thier band. The experiences have been awesome.

My advice to you about going is that if you can get her up to the front by the stage it will change everything. It will almost be like she is a part of the show because she will get to interact with the players. The Dream Theater & Shindown shows have been two of the best things I have ever done with my daughter.
