Question on recent Styx harmonies

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Tue Mar 05, 2013 10:46 am

Not to start a bashing war, but I was curious on the vocal harmonies of the recent Styx shows. I was looking at a variety of videos that were posted and came across these 2.

The video of "Light Up" it seems that the vocal harmonies were very loud and it looked like that Larry was the only one singing in the mic.

The second video, the harmonies were pretty bad, I don't think it was the videotaping. I was listening to both with my headphones so I could hear more clear.

Has it been like this at recent shows or just this one show with the harmonies?

I really can't focus on the harmonies because I'm writhing in agony from how awful JY sounds singing this DDY song. Why isn't Dennis's replacement singing this? He would sound lightyears better compared to JY. Same with Lorelei. Is this their "fuck you" to Dennis, having JY sing some of his songs and butchering them?

I believe the Orlando Show was the one Tommy wrote about when he was dealing with laryngitis and was unable to sing his regular parts so the other guys had to cover for him. In this case they didn't do so good. You are also hearing some pretty bad crowd singing as well.

Lawrence should be doing this.

Just a guess, but JY was the only one in the band for that album.

I wasn't advocating JY that JY should sing it (would sound utterly godawful), I'm saying that his appearance on Equinox as a justification for singing Light Up is flawed because Lawrence sings Suite Madame Blue.

Any footage of the Tommy songs from Orlando where the other guys sang them?
