Full Show

Postby Everett » Fri Apr 26, 2013 1:16 am

Here's a full show of the midweast rock n roll express from last weekend. Not the greatest
video ever taken it's also very shakey at times but it's better then nothing at this point.

Good show but nothing new for longtime fans.
I notice both Ricky and Tommy changing their parts quite a bit from the original tracks. Sometimes it's a good thing, but mostly I think it's done because they've played these tunes so many times that they feel the need to spice them up if not for the audience's sake, then for their own. I can imagine playing the same songs for that long would be tough. Everything works here, the one kind of 'bad' comment is that I wish that JY would go back to the GI album and sing Miss America as he did there. Live, it's just become a parody and I think that's a drag.
I will say that I enjoy Gowan's stage banter. I think he's a hilarious guy and he seems to always try to change the banter up a bit. Styx has kind of always been a band to say the same things between and during songs over the years and I like that Gowan shakes that up a bit. JY also says some really funny stuff. Standout video here is Man in the Wilderness. Flawlessly done here.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Ya know, I've really got to hand it to Amato and Hall. No matter how many times I've seen them performing live whether it be in-person at a show or watching a video of them pro-shot or cell cam, those two ALWAYS bring it on every song they play - especially Amato. I mean, when you figure they've probably played every song in their setlists a few thousand times over the years, Dave always makes it seem like every song is his favorite! And Bruce is never without a smile on his face and hopping around. They just really do a great job of being performance artists for the crowd. And don't make any assumptions... they're not my favorite band by a long shot (my wife on the other hand is from Champagne-Urbana, went to U of I, yada, yada, yada,...) There aren't a lot of bands who have been around as long as these guys you can say that about. And Kevin.... just shut up and sing already!
Also, I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've ever seen Doughty without a hat on!

Yeah daves a great guy. Get's alotta crap like most replacement players do but his quitar playing abilities are vastly
underrated. Granted i'm not a big fan of his (i mean c'mon you can't replace gary freakin richrath) but he is stil an
underrated performer.
