Opening Bands

Anyone else hate opening bands as much as i do? I understand why promoters book
them with established bands but they take up time from the artist that i paid
to see. I'm probably in the minority about this.

Well,as long as I know about it I can prepare accordingly.
Last Friday I went to see Stranglers and did not see anything about warmup bands and there were 2.
Bloody hell.Needles to say I was well shitfaced by the time the main band went on.
But had a fine evening never the less.

They set the vibe for the night. A shitty opening band can ruin the evening. A great opening band can make for an even better headline act.

I hate opening bands, usually. Back in the day, they were better--I saw Billy Squire open for Foreigner, The Motels open for J Geils, Christopher Cross open for America, Sheila E open for Lionel Richie, and Kenny Loggins open for Chicago. A lot more bang for a much cheaper buck.
Sometimes it makes no sense at all.

Pretty much every band we have come to like was an opening act at some point. Just think if that attitude made promoters not book opening acts. A lot of bands would have never made it.
