MUSIC TIME

Postby yogi » Tue Jun 11, 2013 12:18 am

Heard an old American Top 40 yesterday. Music Time spent 2 weeks in a row @ #40.

Also according to Caset Kasum(SP?) It was Styx's 14th top 40 hit.

I didnt know that( 2 weeks @ #40- I only thought that it spent 1week @ #40, and at the time 14 Top 40 hits)

P.S. Show Me The Way and Love at First Sight would also go top 40. 16 Top 40 hits. Pretty damn IMPERSSIVE!!

It really was amazing why Music Time didn't get higher up the charts. New single on a live album for a band that was still huge as hell at the time. Very in tune with 1984 pop music as well. A&M didn't give a crap?

Styx was defunct at that point. No reason for them to push the song or the band.

I'm sure that's why A&M wasn't going to do a major push with it. Actually I'm surprised it even cracked the Top 40 at all. I always wondered if this was just a song that was cut from KWH.

I disagree. They invested behind a pretty robust video behind the song. This was the new single from a new album from a band that had two top 5 singles less than a year before. Typically if a bad has a history like that, regardless of the quality of the record, it's automatically going to get airplay. The falloff takes place on the follow up singles.

I'm sure that they were notified that at least for the very near future Styx was going to be inactive. The question is when were they made aware of it. It could have been after the video was done.

Styx was still a MAJOR player at AM at the time. Why on earth would they not push the lone new single off their live Caught In The Act album? Even if they knew Styx was breaking up I would think they would want to sell as many CITA albums as possible.

From a business perspective, it could have been very profitable for them. Live albums have little studio costs. But then again, didn't they have to go back and re record parts of cita?

And to build on that - which live album sold better CITA or RTP? Thinking that StyxWorld Live, Music Of Styx (DDY) or any of those other live LPs pale in comparison sales-wise.
