Sorry to have gotten hopes up

All, I am looking at the calendar and realize that I saw Dennis DeYoung over a month ago at BB King's in NYC. Recall, at that time, Dennis told everyone in the audience that he had some special news and to keep checking back at his website to find out what it was. Well, its now been over a month and his website is exactly the same as it was some 30+ days ago. He made it sound like "this announcement" would be imminent and so I thought I'd let everyone on his board. Clearly that hasn't been the case. Again, I'm not sure if plans changed or he's just slow in making an announcement, but the fact of the matter is, if something isn't final, he shouldn't have been vaguely throwing out hints that something big was up. So, my apologies to you all if my reiterating what I heard caused you to have false expectations over what might be coming. Part of me is mad at myself. Done this dance before with Dennis and "what might be coming down the pike" only to never see it materialize. I should have known better and kept it to myself. As it is, it makes me frustrated as hell.

Yeah, he played this game earlier this year with promises of big changes in the set list and a live DVD being recorded. What is it with Styx people and making promises they don't follow through with?

I see what you mean. When it comes to stuff like this Dennis has been "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" lately. Also, I don't know which is worse, having no website at all or having one that rarely ever gets updated.

he did the same thing in 1991 on the Edge tour promising more tours and a new album "next year". Never happened.

His wife has just about completed her second book. It may have something to do with it.
Maybe a couple of new singles for the first hundred or so customers who purchase this book thru his website.

And here I thought it was an announcement for an exclusive line of jewelry.

Thats actually the big news coming from the Styx camp.
They announced last week for every 'Oh Mamma' necklace purchased, you get a free pound of Styx coffee.
' All I want to do is rock.................... and sell costume jewelry and have my own brand of coffee' TS

Yes, on the Edge tour, which I think I saw 5 times all up and down the West Coast, Dennis said "I PROMISE we will be back here next year." He also promised another album. I heard him say that 4 times. The last show that I saw later in the summer, he didn't say it and I got nervous. Maybe he knew the record company was starting to flake. By then Nirvana, who I friggin' hate to this day, had taken over the rock charts. I even talked to John Panozzo for about 20 minutes before one of the shows. He told me they were absolutely back together for good and working on the follow-up to Edge of the Century.
I know Dennis really thought they were going to be back and do another album. It really wasn't his fault that they got dropped from their label.
The music industry has become a joke. Just listen to the garbage that your kids are listening to today.

I listen to todays music with my 11 year old son and I ABSOLUTELY love today's rock music. A little heavier then back in the day but GREAT vocals and great bands all around. There is some incredible music and albums being made today. Bands such as Three Days Grace, Seether,Shinedown, Halestorm,Breaking Benjamin, Adelitas Way, Daughtry(solo), Five Finger Death Punch, Avenged Sevenfold are all making GREAT GREAT rock albums
Compare Avenged Sevenfold or Five Finger Death Punch of today VS an AC/DC /Aerosmith / Van Halen or Kiss of my youth - same bands different era. Listen to Halestorm. That band is like the linking of Pat Benatar, Joan Jett and Heart. Unreal how good they and many ofthese other bands are. Compare the vocals of a Shinedown, Seether or Three Days Grace to that of REO, Foreigner, Styx/Loverboy/ Night Ranger- All GREAT but from different eras. The lyrics of Dear Agony( Breaking Benjamin) VS ???? great meaningful rock music
Also, bands like Dream Theater, Staind, Soundgarden, Three Doors Down and others are still staying creative and producing some of their best albums and music to date.
Right now its the late 70's/ early 80's all over again as far as rock bands are concerned.
I dont believe for one minute that its all just a singles driven market. There are some great new bands making great albums just like it was back when we were young.

Toph, I was at BB Kings also and heard the same thing.
I know in the past he has cried wolf on a number of projects that I believe he wanted to do, but never got fully pulled together.
This time it seemed a bit different than those.
We will have to wait and see.

I'm not holding my breath on this one. From what has been said he gave the impression that something would be said in a few weeks. He hasn't posted anything new to his site in almost over a year. To me it seems like another cry wolf event.

Well here we are, another month gone by. Not a peep from DDY about the so called "big news". Anyone care to wager when he will post anything new on his website?

except in the late 70's and early 80's those albums were selling enormous amounts of copies.....some bands were moving over 50,000 units per week........bands today are lucky to move between 50,000-100,000 total for their new releases.
