Anywhere you can see the ORIGINAL Styx Behind the Music instead of the revisionist BS "remastered" version? The last 15 minutes of the revisionist one is just a puff piece for the current band. The only one I can find on YouTube is the remastered version. Looking for the original - can't find it. I'm sure the existing band has done their best to rid YouTube of it.

Yeah, that kinda pissed me off. It had said absolutely nothing about what Dennis is doing after the break up and brief time afterwards. But I guess they need the publicity more than him....

I bought some Behind The Music's from this guy a few years ago. He had quite an extensive collection. I bought the original Styx BTM, Fleetwood Mac, Chicago. Not sure what else, but the quality was good. Not sure if he still does it. I found the email when I searched my paypal records. I originally found him on youtube when I watched Journey BTM that he uploaded. I don't see him anymore though when I do the search. Try emailing him and ask, it couldn't hurt.

Well, it certainly seems to me that someone wanted to paint the picture a certain way. Which did not include on how Dennis ended up after being pushed out of the band.

well it's my understanding that DDY was never happy with the original behind the music.....I think I saw an interview somewhere that he felt that the editing that was done left out stuff he wanted in and sort of portrayed him and suzanne (especially suzanne) as winey etc.....

he may have declined to participate in the extra stuff they filmed for the "remastered" version.

my experience has been that nearly all of the "remastered" behind the music's are not nearly as good as the originals....they wind up cutting up the story in place of glazing over quickly what is taking place now.

I can't stand the "Behind the Music" episode of Styx. It's pure bullshit. It also proves my point that most people will believe anything they are told. I cannot tell you how many people go around repeating what they heard in that episode regarding the Kilroy shows. Especially the Texas show where they say the crowd turned on Styx.
Yogi was there! I believe he said that nobody was booing Styx!
I saw the Kilroy show 5 or 6 times. NOBODY booed! People were walking out of those theaters happy and dancing like crazy.

They (fans) were NOT booing Styx. That part of Behind The Music was a TOTAL lie.

They were booing Dr. Rightous, they were booing 100+ degree heat with most people being there all day. They were booing NO usuable restrooms, they were booing the Texas Blue Laws with alcohol sales being shut down 2 hours before the Sunday Blue Laws were actually suppose to go into effect. They were booing the stench in many areas of the Cotton Bowl. They were booing the total idiots that drank all day and wanted to fight for no reason at all.

Styx and Kilroy had NOTHING to do with the chaos that was happening. The ONLY thing they (Styx) screwed up on that night was taking too long to get on stage. Thats when alot of the negative stuff happened.

Still the show was AWESOME and the vast majority of the people attending the Texas Jam LOVED it. They proved why they were the headliner, why they should of been the headliner, why they were still at the time far above the other acts that night, and why they were still one of the hottest acts going. They maybe were not quite Paradise Theater popular but they were still damn close and they were by far the majority of the reason why most of the 40,000 plus people were attending the Texas Jam. It was a GREAT show. Hell most of us didnt even know alot of what happened, happened until we read or heard about it the next day or in the coming weeks.

I will try to make this my last Behind The Music rant so here it is;

Back when this was made there were MAJOR MAJOR hard feelings between Dennis and the ENTIRE Styx team including Cahil, Sutton and some others that spoke about different aspects of Styx. Most of this was said in my opinion to make Dennis look like the bad guy, and a control freak who at the end(Kilroy) ran roughshot over everyone involved in Styx. They tried to make him look like a tyrant instead of the leader of a very successful rock and roll bad. Hell it worked. Dennis came off as the bad guy.

Now years later, I wish they would revisit some of the same topics raised in the orginal Behind The Music, especially the Texas Jam segment.

I have not a clue what went on the next night in Houston. It is also impossible for me to say what all of the 35,000+ at the Cotton Bowl actually thought of Styx that night. But I would be willing to bet that the GREAT GREAT majority of people that stayed and saw Styx perform the Kilroy show loved it. I was with a group of about 20+ people. Some of them were country music fans and they were ABSOLUTELY blown away by Styx's show. 'Best show they had ever seen' was said by so many of the people that I was with. They had not a clue that a rock band could perform something so good and entertaining. Styx was bt FAAAARRRR the stars of that entire event. The crowd loved the show. It was entertainment and it was rock and roll.

How Tommy Shaw and Jim Cahil or was it Derek Sutton can say otherwise is completely false. Its an out and out lie.

I wish someone now would go back a revisit that question with Tommy Shaw.

I have only just watched it.The remastered edition that is.Never saw the original.
But I enjoyed it.Dennis snivelling away.What's with Suzanne,why was she there.Was she in the original ?
I always admired that Tommy ,JY and Chuck standing up for them selves,and giving Dennis the boot.
Good for them.
Now to the Kilroy tour.
It's easily the worst Styx concert I ever saw.
For the folks who wanted to have the story of Dennis after Styx,I don't see why they should bother.
He was not part of the band anymore,and it was about Styx wasn't it.
It would also be hard to,as he didn't want to participate.
Maybe somebody would like to make the story of Dennis after Styx,any takers ?

Not gonna argue with you but how on earth could ANYBODY say it was a bad concert. I saw it 4 times. If memory serves me the only hits missing were Lady & Fooling Yourself. No opening act and a rock opera ( Movie) followed by the Styx songs:
1)Mr Roboto followed by Dennis talking about Styx playing the Paradise Theater JY then comes out with the opening riffs for:
2) Rockin The Paradise
3) Blue Collar Man
4) Babe
5) Snowblind
6) Too Much Time On My Hands
7) Cold War

Dont Let It End - Why the stupid smile???? dislike the song
9) Heavy Metal Poisoning ( lots of Dr Rightous booing)* where they got the booing from for the bogus Texas Jam segment on BTM
10) Crystal Ball
11) Suite Madame Blue
12) Best Of Times
13)Come Sail Away
14)Renegade - Paradise is stormed
15) Havent We Been Here Before
16) Repise with some Twist & Shout

Yes Suzanne was. I was wondering the same thing about Tommy's hairdresser gf\wife. Who cares what her opinion is. She wasn't really there for any of it. At least Suzanne was there from the start.

JY never had a problem standing up for himself. He has a long line of lawyers to prove it. Tommy will stand up for himself by telling everybody except the person he has the issue with. Chuck, well what can you say? It's not like he could go solo or be asked to join some other band.

Actually it's a documentary about the band and it's members. If you want to tell the complete story then it makes sense to include what one of the principle and one of the most recognizable members of the group is doing currently. Maybe since JP and JC died prior to this documentary and were no longer in the band they should have left out what happened to them.

Out of all the three principles, at least Dennis has had the most success as a solo act. I doubt anyone outside of hardcore Styx fans even know JY had a solo career, that is if you could it that. Tommy's last solo tour was appearing at Borders Bookstores. He had dates scheduled for his bluegrass album but if I remember correctly they were cancelled. Except for his appearance at the Grand Ole Opry.

Actually I don't think there's enough stuff to make a solo documentary on any of them. Heck, you could do JY's in like 60 seconds and that's stretching it. Talk about trying not to fall asleep. You certainly would have more material for Tommy. But those fan clips of the Borders tour would be pretty lack luster. But the reality is that DDY has been able make a solo career both now and when they split in the 80's. Even though he wasn't looking to be a solo artist in the first place. As far as the Floyd feud, couldn't say. Never delved into it but do like their music a lot. I am sure it's just as entertaining as Styx'.

At the end of Renegade sirens and crap start going off ( there are tons of flashing lights along with the sirens going high low/high lowbut with no real pattern it almost made me kind of dizzy, queezy and light headed also) as police rush the stage to arrest the band then when all the mayhem dies down is when Tommy shows his acting chops( damn it damn it) before singing 'Havent We Been Here Before'. I actually thought it was brilliant. I loved every second of these shows. Even Roboto and Dont Let It End which are two songs I dont like at all but I loved em in the show. Just a GREAT set and an even better show.

Ah,thanks.Just remembered that something happened that I thought was pretty cool at the time.
Though that setlist,there are at least 5 songs that I rather not hear.
....also haven't heard Kilroy in more than 30 years.
