Kenny Aronoff sitting in for Todd again

Postby Archetype » Fri Feb 07, 2014 5:17 am

Todd & Taylor's baby is due any day now, so Kenny will be playing the next four shows with Styx. I hope someone gets really good footage.

I will not be playing with STYX this week (Feb 6 trough 10) as I must be home for the birth of our daughter. We're on baby watch! Voluminous thanks to my pal Kenny Aronoff who's filling in for me in a pinch!

He is? I'm at the San Jose show right now as I post this. Starts at 8pm. I'd rather have Todd.

I've heard that Kenny is very good. What did you think of him?

He was awesome. A monster behind the drums.

Nothing surprising. I checked the recent shows setlist and nothing changed. I hadn't realized though that JY sang Light Up when they stuck it in the set. I just assumed Gowan would.

JY singing "Light Up" would make me want to gouge my eyes out....

I've made no secret about the fact that I wish DDY were back in the band. Nothing would make me happier (music wise). To see Styx with their big 3... is there anything better? Vocally, Tommy and Dennis can't be touched... as good as ever. That being said, JY's rendition of Light Up wasn't all that bad. It wasn't completely out of his comfortable vocal range like the chorus of Miss America and most of Great White Hope are. It was better than Gowan singing it. Don't get me wrong... Gowan is very talented. He's a great keyboardist and good entertainer. I just don't like his vocals. I'd rather Tommy or JY sing the "Dennis" songs. There are a few songs though I don't mind his voice on... I Don't Need No Doctor, A Salty Dog and A Criminal Mind. I actually like those songs. I tell you one thing, it's hard getting into someone else singing 2 of your favorite Styx tunes other than the original vocalist/writer. I'm Okay and Pieces of Eight are perfect... when Dennis is on vocals. He's the reason those songs are great... to me. It's just so damn disappointing that they'll never work things out and perform as a "band" again.

The concert was fun though. The band did sound great. My son had an awesome time and I got to see Styx very close to home. I had pretty good seats too. Hopefully Dennis will come to the San Jose area this year. Unfortunately I missed him when he came last Summer. I will not miss him again if given the chance.

and because no one updated this. Taylor & Todd had a beautiful baby girl named Teagan Everly. Mom, baby, and Dad are all doing well, and I think Todd is in Neverland right now.
