Guess it's down to just REO and Night Ranger..

With Steve Walsh's departure from Kansas, guess the only two classic rock bands that have retained their lead singer(s) are REO and Kansas. Fans of every other classic rock band won't be getting the real deal. And that's a shame.

i guess you could also throw in there;

pat benetar
peter gabriel

even though they are solo artists it's still the vocalists singing the songs that made them famous from their heydays.

and if you include the early days of the 80's and consider them as classic rock.....i guess you could because it seems to be played on the same radio stations these days;

bon jovi
def leppard
judas priest
iron maiden
whitesnake
dokken
europe
loverboy
rick springfield
toto
tesla
u2

yeh but outside of those 20 or so you are 100% right toph.

I don't consider any of those Styx's genre.

Worthless comment. Those are solo acts. Throw in Billy Joel and Elton John too why don't you?

With the exception of maybe cheap trick and maybe heart, none of those are in Styx's genre.

well reread your initial post topher………you mention "classic rock band" more than once…….so how does rush and van halen and deep purple not classify as "classic rock band"……please enlighten me?

it's not worthless toph……you bring up the "classic rock bands" are no longer the real deal anymore because of apparently their lead singers no longer being that voice we all know them for…….other than of course night ranger and reo according to you.

point being is that pat benetar and peter gabriel certainly meet the criteria of classic rock and certainly obtained a great deal of their popularity because of the uniqueness of their voices……yet, those acts when playing live are still the "real deal" for their fans…..it's relevant……and yeh, its fine with me to include billy joel and elton john as well……good catch…..now you're getting it toph……….but are you getting it? get it?

You know what I meant. You're just being your usual asshole self.

Neither Deep Purple, nor Rush, nor Van Halen nor any of those other bands you mention are similar in style and genre as styx. I meant the arena rock acts that are associated with Styx - Boston, REO, Foreigner, Journey, Kansas, etc. etc. Are you really that literal?

Is Cronin even the "original" lead singer? I'm not sure... I'm not sure on their history. I do know that Gary Richrath should be in the band.

Cronin has been in the band since '76. Richrath was fired in late '88/early '89 ish.
They had three singers all together including cronin before he returned in mid '75.

Actually, KC wasn't even the original singer of "Ridin' the Storm Out"...the original studio version had Mike Murphy. KC is on the LIVE version, which everybody identifies with.

Kinda reminds me of Survivor and "Eye of the Tiger". Jimi Jamison did NOT record the original version of this song....but many people think it's him.
