DDY - TV appearance to promote album?

Postby Toph » Tue Oct 07, 2014 7:03 am

DDY's album is released 2 weeks from tomorrow and begs the question as to whether he will do any TV appearances in support of the album. Obviously there will be the AXS concert, but has anyone heard if he will be on any talk shows etc. to promote it?

I would really doubt it. If that was to happen I think it would have happened by now or DDY would be posting information about it on his site. I think the printed and online interviews where he has talked about is the only promotion you will see.

I agree. He has been awful quiet esp since he has a new CD coming out. I would be nice to see him on the Tonight Show or something like that.

I remember with 10 On Broadway, he had a few appearances, including Regis and Kathy Lee. With the Styx 96 comeback, they were on TODAY, Rosie, Fox Breakfast, etc. But that was almost gulp, 20 years ago...

These types of appearances would be nice but he is not in the lime light anymore. Even if he was still in Styx and this would be a Styx release I think the promotion effort would be about the same. The only thing different that I saw with the GI\PO8 DVD release was little blurb commercials the label did on stations like VH1 classic. I think once the show airs on AXS it will help sales. How much is anyone's guess. This really was about the AXS broadcast with the DVD being a side benefit. The best thing about this is his show will be aired on TV and the fans finally get a recording of his current band which I still think has been his best solo band to date.

If anything you might see him appear on local Chicago TV like channel 9 or ABC 7 on the morning shows.

You know... wasn't "Roboto" done as karaoke on the Jimmy Fallon show?
Because Dennis has a good sense of humor, it'd be funny if they did something similar and just had Dennis be, like, a volunteer out of the audience or something (in street clothes) and just walk up and sing one of the tunes with Fallon as some kind of volunteer out of the audience, and sing a REALLY corny and funny "Roboto". Then pull the curtain back and have Dennis' band back there and go into "Come Sail Away". It'd be a great way to feature him. Dennis doesn't have a face that's instantly recognizable to most people but us here, so most people wouldn't figure it out until he opened his mouth and THAT SOUND came out of it. Dennis can come off as a bit corny on stage sometimes but if he plays that up (as he does in his interviews) it could be REALLY funny and really well done. He's an instantly likeable dude in all of his interviews and it'd be cool to have that come across. I think that one that kind of happened with Styx, and Dennis mentioned this recently, was that it looked like they took themselves too seriously. That could've been, and probably was, just a skewed perception. Editing can do that and journalists with a grudge can do that too.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Oh sure, its pretty obvious if you you look at his head.

The real question is - when did it first appear?

- Paradise Tour/Kilroy - "short hair" era begins?
- "Back To The World?" - note difference in hair between DM/DWFH videos and Call me
- "Edge" - The mullet years?
- 10 On Broadway?
- Return To Paradise - The bad dye job?
- Post Styx - the gray look?

Last night while I listening to CBS Radio's Overnight America program the host (Jon Grayson) mentioned that Dennis will be on the show this coming Monday (Oct. 13). Overnight America is a radio talk show program that is syndicated arcoss the country. It comes on one of my local AM radio stations weeknights at 1 AM. I assume he will be on to promote the upcoming DVD release and AXS program. Here's a link to the show's website in case you want to check it out and tune in to hear Dennis on the show.

Here's a pod cast of DDY on the show. It's the second one on this page.
