DDY Live Album Showed Up In The Mail Today

Postby StyxCollector » Sun Oct 12, 2014 6:41 am

Got the different Japanese variations:
2 CD
DVD
DVD + 2 CD
Blu-Ray
Blu-Ray + 2 CD

As an FYI, the Japanese CD has a bonus cut: "Mr. Roboto" live at the Chicago Theatre on April 4, 2003.

Only real complaint so far: no Rockin' the Paradise on any of the video formats, even as a bonus. It's only on the CDs.

I may review it, but really busy at the moment so we'll see.

You can sample the CD on iTunes now. Is it just me or does it sound like its sped up to make his voice sound higher?? Either way his voice still sounds great.

Amazing how both DDY and Tommy still have strong clear voices after 30 years!

One thing I always noticed is that DDY's voice live always sounded a tad bit higher then when listening to studio recordings.

Maybe it's because it's just another performance of material that we have all heard a thousand times before. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will be a well produced release. It's just that there's really nothing "new" about it. Let's say it was new material or an acoustic performance or a bunch of rarities, then I would be more excited.

Mine hasn't shipped yet... Also ordered Led Zep's Houses Of The Holy on vinyl and that comes out next week. More than likely they will ship together as I normally have my stuff ship all at once.

I haven't ordered it yet either. And I don't know if I will. It has nothing new on it. My favorite live album is RTP. Will it top that no. Does it have any new or any deep cuts,no . So I am on the fence on this. I remember when his first live album came out after the Styx split it was great. 2 or 3 new songs,Castle Walls etc. Will it top that album?

I ordered it. Your right that it doesn't top RTP. His first post Styx release was different due to the fact that it was with an Orchestra. Something that Styx never did up to that point (recording). Interesting how they came up with the idea after DDY did it. With this new release I ordered it because it's the first recording with his current band which I think has been his best since going solo. What I am really hoping for is an album of new material with this band. The way DDY has been talking about the offer from Frontiers, it looks that there is a high chance we will see it.

Does anyone happen to know if there are any differences between that Blu-ray release and the standard DVD release? I mean other then the obvious picture and sound quality. For example, bonus material on the disc.

Styx (DDY,Tommy,JY,Chuck & John) DID play with an orchestra once back in the day. Might of been in Vegas. I have an excellent boot of that show on CD that I purchased off of E-bay years ago.

That's why I said recorded release. Styx never did an official release of Styx with an orchestra prior to DDY releasing his "with orchestra" show.

The first Styx with orchestra show was in 1996 in Atlanta with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. I was there. Awesome show at a sold out Chastain Park.

Got mine in the mail and I have to say this is a fabulous live album. The 8 minute version of RTP is the best live version yet. Show Me The Way is also better than the Return To Paradise version. I was a bit skeptical of another live release but this one is the best one in a while. Well worth the price.
