And on the 5th Day of Styxmas

My true love gave to me.....

$5 off any Styx branded dog leash, collar, or bowl!!!

https://www.styxworld.com/styxmas2014

Glad to see Tommy and JY got rid of that dastardly Dennis DeYoung and his ballads, because we wouldn't want to do anything to denigrate the Styx brand.....

That stuff is really a drag to see for longtime fans of the band.
Really? THIS is what Styx fans want?

Come on you guys, this is getting really disheartening.

My Dog ( boxer) ABSOLUTELY loves his collar and dog bowl. Although he has been teased and picked on by the other dogs in the neighborhood. Wonder if he Styx brain trust has thought about selling poop bags.

Who would have thought that my boxer would love to eat whale vomit??

It's crazy all right.
You guys remember when they were selling Finesse haircare products and romance novels at their shows ?
Those were the days.

According to a recent Facebook post,Tommy has since amended this quote. He actually meant to say, "All I want to do is Rock, sell coffee, jewelry and pet accessories". Due to the time constraints on VH1's Behind the Music Styx episode, he had to shorten his response to some questions. This was one of them.

it's says tons about how good DDY's new stuff is when you would rather talk about this so soon. A dozen posts or so about the new DDY stuff and back to the same old games. Kinda funny that Styx merchandise is more popular than DDY's new music.

Dennis's music isn't pathetic and a cry for help....

Monk, no new music for Dennis. Don't know where you heard that. He is currently on tour in Canada.

Styx minus Dennis is about to release their 14TH studio album I believe it is titled Cyclorama. It is great that they are releasing new material. From what I hear it will be a GREAT rock - progressive rock type of album. I'm on board with them. They are a rock band that is committed to the roots of Styx. I'm psyched about their new music.

After this BRILLIANT release look for NO new albums but instead look forward to: coffee, mugs, jewelry, cool black goth T shirts, dog collars, dog bowls, chew toys, poop bags, Kites, kick balls, yo yos, whistles, brushes & combs, car care products, and a wide variety of grocery products.

I went and seen Styx last Friday at the Horseshoe Casino show in Hammond IN. I have to say the band did not sound very good, and this is in one the best venue theatres around IMO. They sounded very flat, and appeared like they truly were just going through the motions. The set list consisted of a few suprises, they played the full version of Lights and Light Up. Lights was the best of the show I thought. Light Up on the other hand sung by JY was terrible, he has no business singing anymore, JY has never had the greatest of voices, but he has lost the little bit he had. I seriously was in shock how bad it was. Miss America also you cant understand a bit of it, he should consider talking his parts (recitations). I'm a fan of both camps, but I am honestly saying the current Styx needs a shot in the arm. Maybe their age is catching up with them finally. I am 100% serious that DDY band is better than these guys now and offer the better show, I have seen them both recently.

No matter what, it's pretty sad that the only activity that seems to be going on in the Styx camp is pushing merchandise. Except for withhold sync rights from DDY for one single song. If you want to focus on DDY's current release, why not ask what their reasoning was for not approving sync rights for RTP?

LOL...too funny. You guys reply to my post by talking more shit about Styx. Wow, Dennis must REALLY suck. I don't know, I haven't heard the CD or seen the concert. it must have put everybody to sleep...and the only way to stay awake is to pay attention to Styx and whine and complain. Absolutely hilarious!

Come on Monkley your getting a little sensitive.

All I want out of the Boyz is a little new ROCK music and some sort of creativity. We got a little of that from them a few years back with their Grand Illusion/Pieces Of Eight Tour which lasted all of maybe 10 shows. That was somewhat creative. But sure as crap they ditched it because I assume it was far too much work putting on that show.

They are artists & at last check artists are suppose to create. A rock band creating, coffee. dog bowls, collars, Oh Mama jewelry etc is not my idea of creating. Especially since we have gotten zero/zilch in terms of new music from them. All this is coming from a band that kicked out a founding member because he 'didn't really want to do the rock music thing anymore'. Is that what Styx is doing now,( rock music) or have they just become a tired lounge act?

So now Monkley I ask you, who will be the next lead singer of Journey????? I'm hearing its the guy who use to front Pablo Cruise. Read it in the Stone. Will link it for you www.rollingstonepablosjourney.com

No Styx just sucks these days, that's all. Sorry to piss in your Cheerios, but it's the truth. Dennis's album is awesome - finally we have all the Styx hit songs on one CD/DVD in a live format. No other live Styx or Styx related product can make that statement.

Your right, the "golden rule" of this forum has been broken. "Thou Shall Not Make Fun Of The Current Styx". Please accept my heartfelt apology. Perhaps as a token of peace and good will I could send you some Styx merchandise. What would you like?

Styx has the talent, they have just lost the desire to create ANYTHING new and interesting. They are FRICKIN LOADED with talent and they have turn that talent into a tired lounge act. Talk about UNDERACHIEVEING, that's what's soooooooo damn sad.

In other words, its the same story that has been repeated time and time again here. They are perfectly happy to coast out their careers on their nostalgia. When you point this out some try to deflect that truth. Which does not seem to hold much water so to speak.

nah, the sad truth is Toph tried over and over to start threads to talk about Dennis, and they all had incredibly short lives.

Nobody cares.

Even yogi tried to resurrect old threads to bring some life back here. Kinda interesting...but in the end, most of the people from those days - who actually talked about Styx and the music - left long ago because of the CRAP that is posted here.

So, now all you have left is a forum which consists of nothing but people who bitch and whine about Styx. That's all anybody here really cares about doing. You don't even know how to have a discussion about things you DO like.

Well you seemed pretty well versed on what has gone on here for a long time. This begs the question, why do you even bother commenting anymore? Obviously, it has zero effect on changing anything, so what's your goal? BTW, I'm still waiting on what awesome Styx merchandise you would like as a peace offering.

If this isn't the biggest hypothetical piece of bullshit of a post that I've ever seen on this forum. You're a fucking hypocrite Monker. You get on here for the sole purpose of lambasting DDY. And you have the audacity to call others out because they think that selling dog bowls and leashes might not be the best way to carry on the Styx legacy?! You're insane.

LOL...I post about a lot of other things besides DDY. You just feel compelled to lie about it.

I didn't "call others out". I am simply making the very valid observation that people here would rather talk shit about Styx than talk about DDY and his music. In fact, I don't think you people are able to. You tried and could not get your needed attention. So, to prompt your tribe to post, you go back to posting shit about Styx. That gets responses and the attention you crave.

Come On Monkley you know that you come slumming over here from your regular Journey hood just to stir the pot a little. It makes it fun and a little entertaining to read your takes then sit back and watch you get hammered by the DDY Loyals. You know what's about to happen before you hit your first letter on the keyboard.

I'm behind both camps , but currently there is no way I will spend a dime on the group calling themselves Styx until they do something musically creative, new or challenging.

For a Christmas gift my wife was actually going to book one of their summer cruises where they perform. As cool as that sounded I told her no, lets do something different. To me its an utter joke what they have become. With all their talent, and they are LOADED,they have become nothing more than a lounge act. It truly appears that its all about the $$$$ to them. When you are a rock and roll band, and instead are selling dog bowls, coffee & jewelry over creating something new and interesting there is something terribly wrong with that.

It's not wrong if your goal is only to make $$$$ and hocking that stuff online makes you good $$$$. I would say the right words would be terribly sad then terribly wrong. Especially when other acts from your period and maybe not as successful as you were seem to be able sell at least some new material. On the other hand maybe they did some research on Styx releasing new material. Maybe they found out even if it was a single song here and there nobody but a really small handful of diehards would even bother to check it out. That surely would take the wind out of your sails.

Nah, they're lazy...Dog bowls and that kind of stuff are easy $$ - slap the logo on and the diehards will pick one up for their pooch. Its cheap crap made in China that they can then justify selling for higher prices because of the brand logo. For these guys at this stage, its all about cashing in.

Hock NEW music online,if you cant get a label. Shi t, JY did it out of his basement 20+ yrs ago with his BIG TALL Blond Guy from Styx CD.

Their Brave New World Tour was AWESOME. They Blew REO & Journey off the stage when they played with them doing 3-4 cuts from Cyclorama every show. So what if their new material it doesn't sell huge #s, who cares, you may create your best work EVER. Best hard rock song ya ever did, best prog piece ya ever did. You will never know unless you try. Its not like they are a bunch of hacks up there. They are ALLLL tremendous musicians, that know each other inside and out.

Its not like they ALL don't have the coin to ante up. Sell it off your website through downloads & CDs. Its not that expensive to do. They all have home studios. They did it with Revitalization or whatever the hell that was. Sack up and create something GREAT. God knows they have got the talent & the $$$, all they are lacking is the management & the guts.

All that hard work and what does JY have to show for it? Really nothing. City Slicker maybe sold what? I don't know the actual numbers but I bet it was less then 2000 units. I'm sure his other releases didn't fair any better. If JY is "driving the bus" you know he is not going to do anything that will lose or not make money.

yogi wrote:So what if their new material it doesn't sell huge #s, who cares, you may create your best work EVER.

That's just it, they obviously seem to. It won't sell huge numbers or numbers that those controlling Styx are willing to accept to put the work and time in to do it. It's obvious that the "creative factor" no longer drives them. They said all but, we won't do it because there's no money in it. Unless it is a profitable venture you not going to see them do it. Maybe they would if a label was to throw a bunch of money at them and they did not have to invest their own money. But it seems that is not going to happen.

What is interesting is you have a label like Frontiers that has made an album offer to DDY. DDY's solo sales have fallen short of what Styx' album sales were. So if Styx has not been getting offers such as DDY has, it makes you wonder why that is. They have the name and have a bigger presence on the touring circuit then DDY.
