Two days ago I read an interview with Lawrence in which he stated new music by the end of the year. We'll see.

I doubt there will be a lot of people holding their breath. Honestly, they have been saying this same shit for very long time. Here is what I think is an honest reply: "Put up or shut up."

Well that's good news. I wonder if they are under pressure because DDY maybe putting out new music. It sucks that the way it sounds it me be only a download type thing. I wish he would say "new CD by the end of 2015". Shaw and Gowen are really pushing the new music thing I bet. I can see how the creative fires would be burning in them

Sounds to me that they may add some new songs to a CD of the live show...kinda like CYO...and maybe have the singles on iTunes.

Also, another reason for the DVD, maybe Dennis has loosened up and will allow them to release CSA...since he didn't for CYO. Styx could finally be able to release a DVD of a full concert experience...they could not do that prior to the GI/PO8 concert. That may be why they are putting forth this effort.

Funny, I don't remember ever saying that they should stop doing anything they do. In fact, I believe I have said that it's their lives and their band. I have been critical and poked fun at what they have been doing. If you do not share the same opinion as mine, I can't help that. So if they put out new material, that's fine. But, the fact is they have been making the same kind of statements for several years. Hence the "Put up or shut up" comment. Even those that still follow Styx are cynical about the lack of new material. As far as those in Styx caring about what I have to say, I'm not really concerned about it. But I do appreciate you showing your concern about that point. To calm your concerns, my thoughts and comments posted here about Styx past and present as well as DDY have never been because I thought they would be reading them here.

Anyways I wouldn't mind new music at all. Unfortunately only one member would I wanna hear it from. Tommy. The other two "singers" can't sing. So there's that. And then there's the CSA debate. What a shameful CD/DVD The Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight was due to Dennis keeping Come Sail Away off of there. Oh wait. . . how did it end up there?

I think it's a little unfair to point the blame at one individual. If the person you are referring to is who I think it is, that person does seem to start threads that "stir the pot". However, almost everyone here has taken their pokes and jabs at both the current version of Styx and DDY. This is the result of a fan base that has splintered. One should not be surprised that it would effect a forum about said band and it's members. One can choose whether to get in the mix of it or not. Lastly, were talking about a form of entertainment here and I think it sometimes is taken too seriously and personal.

Believe me, I'm not an innocent board member. I've taken many a shot at certain current members of Styx. But I reached a point where I didn't wanna argue every topic or have to defend my point of view by bashing others. It just got really old, really fast. I'm a Styx fan, their music from 1972-1984 and then from 1995-1999. To me the band has to have Tommy and Dennis. But I won't hold the years before Tommy against them, but I'm not a fan of Edge so much. Once Tommy joined, that's the way it was meant to be and any other incarnation just isn't Styx. My opinion. That's all it is. It shouldn't and doesn't affect anybody else.

First of all, I didn't say CSA was left off of GI?Po8. I said it was left off of CYO - and it was. Go read the posts from way back then. I said GI/PO8 was the first they released it...and maybe since Dennis released his live DVD without Tommy/JY forcing him to remove key songs, that the sentiment is returned to Styx. THAT was the point I was making, and have made before. It's a valid point -- maybe Styx can finally release a live DVD with the songs they want rather then only what DDY can't stop...and THAT is why there is such interest in releasing more live stuff.

Second, ANYBODY can "sing". You may not like their voice, but it's that person singing.

The argument of the "splintered fan base" being the cause of the crap here is just more crap. NO fan base on MR.com is more "splintered" than Journey's and the antics that go on here just don't happen there. If someone starts a post about a new live album being released, you don't get people starting crap just to derail the thread. That is what happens here.

Maybe Andrew takes care of business on the Journey forum, and kicks people off who are being assholes, and mostly lays off this one except for the unabashed trolls. Not a complaint, just an observation.

Ummm....you're an idiot. But since you make that clear on a daily basis, let's get the facts straight. You don't get a full concert experience seeing the band calling themselves Styx. You get 3 out of their 8 biggest hits, a few rock tracks, and some Gowan and JY filler....

Once again, you are wrong. Dennis's DVD was not a complete set - it is missing RTP. He wanted to put RTP on the DVD - JY and/or Tommy wouldn't give up rights. Is it because it kicked ass and,now that they've added it to their setlist, they don't want to be blown out of the water by the DDY band?

No, once again someone replies to my post and adds their own meaning to it.

I said, and you quoted, KEY SONGS. Since DDY says this release represents the most comprehensive compilation of Styx music ever released (or whatever wording he used) and YOU AGREED TO IT AND REPEATED HIS WORDS IN AN ALMOST PLAGAIRISTIC WAY, then even if Tommy or JY are responsible for the non-inclusion of RTP, it did not really change what that collection of songs represents. As has been stated in the forum REPEATEDLY (and you seem to ignore) the FACT is Tommy could have screwed up that CD/DVD by not allowing Crystal Ball or Fooling Yourself...and JY could have done the same with his songs. At that point you would not have this greatest compilation of Styx music ever, and it would not be representative of DDY's concerts either.

Contrast that to CYO, where NO Dennis songs were released...especially CSA, which I know for a fact was performed, as I know people who were there....In fact, Zan was there.

But, regardless, the point I am making is it seems to me that things have thawed a bit between these two camps to a point where they are not interfering with each other's releases. When the GI/Po8 project was announced this forum's response was "there is no fucking way Dennis will allow that concert to ever be released." But, it was released. DDY's DVD was released. And, now we hear MORE Styx concerts will be released.

It's sad that you can not see the positive side to this and instead decide to get all frazzled over the thought of DDY not allowing Styx to release his songs on video...almost 10yrs ago. If the people directly involved can get over it - why can't you?

styx releasing new music is a no win situation. because there will be the following happen;

people who love it will be few.

people who hate it will be few.

people who think that the people who love it are dennis haters and tommy/jy lovers and love anything they do.

people who think that the people who hate it are dennis lovers and tommy/jy haters and will hate anything they do.

people who secretly love it but will come to forums and talk of hating it because it's more fun to stir shit.

people who secretly hate it and will come to forums to defend it because it's more fun to stir shit.


and the real sad thing is that all of those groups combined consist of about 5,000-15,000 people these days......so at the end of the day it won't matter much at all which group you fit into because it's all pretty much irrelevant.

Styx putting out new music or doing something cool or original will get me back to their concerts.

Something new from them, or if they would have performed The Grand Illusion/Pieces Of Eight back to back would have put me on their cruise ship this summer.

I saw them twice( by themselves) after Brave New World came out, and twice more on their Main Event Tour with Journey & REO when they were performing songs from Cyclorama. I sure as hell didn't go to see Journey or REO.

New or original( members DDY /concept) would have me purchasing tickets again.

Been a fan for 40 years that should matter and its an all win situation as far as I'm concerned.

I know exactly what you meant. If you could have paid a little closer attention then you would have got that the CYO comparison with regards to CSA and a new DVD was moot due to it being allowed on a newer DVD. Hence the aforementioned GI/POE DVD.

And no, anybody can't sing. it's an ability not a question of like or dislike. Michael Bolton can sing, but I can't stand his voice. JY could sing at one point whether his voice was good or not... now it's neither. Ace Frehley cannot sing, but I actually like his voice. Just because an individual performs what is defined as singing doesn't mean they can or should. But heck, I know 4 chords on the guitar... I guess that means I can play guitar.
