New Live Styx CD...thoughts

Just bought the new Styx live Cd, kind of glad I did. It is IMO, the better of the Styx cds with DDY. They still put on a good show and sound good. Main reason I bought it was to hear Gowan's take on Suite Madame Blue, since he seems to do better on DDY's faster songs. SMB is better than the boots I have heard of the song, and I have never seen them play the song without DDY.
It was an ok take on the song. The band sounded good, Gowan did a nice touch on the keys, but I really missed Dennis's long note in the song. The song came off more like the studio cut than what they use to pull off in concert. Over all I would give the song a B- for this take on it.
Anybody else have any comments on the cd?

Nothing special. Light Up is really the only thing "different" and I'm not saying it's a good thing. It's just okay. The GI/PoE show was much better. More effort was put into the production. As far as Styx live albums go, it seems rather impossible for this release to be better than Return to Paradise. That's an excellent show. Production is solid. Their individual performances are very good. It's the perfect souvenir IMO.

Really annoyed that Return to Paradise isn't on iTunes. My lifestyle right now doesn't really allow for physical copies of this kind of stuff. Great having a music library on my phone.

Might be a licensing issue with CMC International as I have noticed nothing from CMC is on iTunes or available digitally (not just Styx but a few other bands I looked for on iTunes, the CMC stuff wasn't listed).

I think you're right. It's definitely something.

Hmmm. Just checked and some CMC releases are on iTunes (Skynyrd Vicious Cycle is there) and one of the 3 releases from Blue Oyster Cult is there. But 38 Special's "Drivetrain" is not. Not sure why some are but most aren't. The way it is now, RTP, and Cyclorama are all out of print but Arch Allies and BNW are on iTunes (and I don't think they were always there so they may be new to iTunes). Either way, there were quite a few releases on CMC I enjoyed that are nowhere to be found (I think of CMC and Frontiers Records as the same kind of label. They cater to the classic crown and that is a-okay with me).

Surprised that RTP would go out of print. It was a gold record and the most critically acclaimed of all the Styx live albums.

Didn't CMC go belly up? More then likely that would be the best reason.

Yeah, they went out of business. Cyclorama was actually released under the Sancutary banner (which I still believe is still around but only does stuff for Iron Maiden, so it may be in name only).
CMC International was an American independent record label founded by Tom Lipsky in 1991, focused mainly on classic rock, and classic heavy metal. The label was the haven of many hard rock, arena rock, glam metal and AOR artists in the period when all the majors were investing all their financial efforts on grunge and alternative rock acts.[1] In 1995 CMC started a partnership with BMG Entertainment,[1] which in 1999 owned the majority of the company, with founder Tom Lipsky holding a minority stake.
CMC International became a division of Sanctuary Records Group in 2000, with Lipsky becoming president of Sanctuary Records North America.[2] After Universal Music Group acquired Sanctuary in 2007, CMC International ceased to exist.
Tom Lipsky is currently working as president of Roadrunner Records' Loud & Proud division, always managing classic rock bands and artists.

How could you lose the CD before you put it on the computer?

When my family and I moved to East TN 8 years ago, I remember listening to it on the way over...last time too. When we got over here, I told myself I was not going to move all those cds again, so i copied them onto my computer. 3000 plus, but never came across the DDY again. From time to time I will look for it. But nothing.
