KANSAS live last night!

got to see KANSAS last night on their 40th anniversary of the "leftoverture" album. I've seen them about 15 times over the years but this was the first time since steve walsh retired/left the band....but since he has a new album coming out, i would have to say since he left the band.

anyway, they were on freaking FIRE last night! may have been the best I have ever seen the band. what a great tight sounding band. and man oh man, the freaking setlist.....for a life long wheathead like me, it was glorious. they played stuff spanning their whole career, like they always do, but they even dug deeper into their back catalog than I have ever seen them go.

walsh in his prime is probably my all time favorite singer, or at the worst in my top 3-4. but we all know, especially him, that he hasn't been really able to sing those songs well since the mid 80's. i miss him, but the new guy, ronnie platt, certainly did them justice. he hit all the notes.....his tone isn't quite as pleasant as steve's and even though he hit the notes, they weren't quite as powerful......but damn, considering the shoes he is filling, I totally tip my hat to him!

if you have a chance to see them on this tour, I HIGHLY recommend it! They also hinted that late next year they are considering doing a similar tour to celebrate the 40th anniversary of point of know return. that makes me happy as well!

Saw the same show here in Philly last year. I TOTALLY AGREE! That may have been the BEST Kansas show I've ever seen. Certainly the best since I first saw the original lineup.

My review of the show:

have been little hesitant to see them live without Walsh and Steinhardt, but if they play in a theater nearby will have to check them out. Saw them way to many times in Casino's and Fairs where the drunkards would call out Carry On the whole show. I remember one time Walsh would say, dont worry, we'll get there.
Still watch the video Know place like home often, wish I was there.

Yeah, I too have seen them in casinos and other less than favorable conditions where you had people talking, joking, clowning around and actually OFFENDED that they were not seeing some cover band that would do their favorite 60s & 70s hits on command. THIS show more than makes up for all of that shit....

man I totally get it, as I am a HUGE walsh fan......i mean he is one of my hero's.....so it's difficult to imagine them without him again......BUT, this show is sooooooooo dedicated to their history and covers so much of their careers that is is truly awesome to see. and they are so committed to doing it note for note that it is chilling at times. sure, platt is not as good as walsh was in his prime, but he does the songs justice and honestly, as much as it pains me to say this, he sings them better than steve has in years. so it was very very enjoyable. they all look like they genuinely want to be there and are having a great time.

the epic-ness of how incredible this music is so evident when you see this band play live I'm just glad someone is out there ensuring that it "carries on"....pun intended.
