Styx is well into the process for the next album. Hope to see in in early 2020! Working at Black Bird studios again for this one.

Q: “The Mission” album was epic for Styx fans. But how do you feel about putting out more new music?

A: We’re working on music for a new album. We went for 14 years without creating a new album because we didn’t think there was a place for it. Turns out there was a place for it! There’s no pressure, (but) we want to get it done. I think if we get three more songs we really like that fit, we can move to the next level…We’re pretty far along in the process.

I really hope it's better than Cyclorama. Gowan is a great songwriter and I hope he was more involved with the writing on the new record.

Regardless, I am happy for any new music from those guys. I'm curious to hear the new DDY record as well. He said he pulled out all of the Styx tricks since he's realized a return is not going to happen.

I really liked Cyclorama.

Interesting! Fit what? A concept? Style of music??

i truly love the mission. It's still on regular rotation for me to this day.....so I would very much welcome a new styx album.

I would think songs that fit the vibe of the album. I hope there are going to be a few rockers in there. I love the Mission too and its in regular rotation in my car but I wish it had 1 good hard rocker of a song. Styx has so much talent, and I hope Ricky along with Gowen get some songs written also.

It will be interesting to put DDY new album up against this one.

i think gone gone gone rocks about as much as styx ever has. but i agree that it could have used probably one more real good rocker.

Agreed, hoping JY has the ability to give us something like Half Penny, Two Penny. Hoping for one good rocker from him. I also play The Mission in regular rotation. Listened to it yesterday in my truck. It would be kind of cool if DDY and Styx released something around the same time that way I would have two new albums to enjoy. Kind of like when VH 5150 and Dave's Eat 'Em & Smile came out. It was like having two new Van Halen albums to play!

exactly! man that summer with VH and Diamond Dave both having awesome albums was a great summer!

Heard Alan Hunter talking about The Mission this morning on Sirius XM Classic Rewind. Talked about how much he liked the album and that Styx is currently working on another new album. Word is getting out!

JY said the new Styx album expected around September of 2020......... stay tuned!

It my upcoming interview with drummer Todd Sucherman, he had this to say about a new Styx album:

"To tell you the absolute truth if life had gone on normally, I would have recorded the new Styx record two weeks ago in Nashville. The new Styx record whenever it comes out, I have to tell you is mind-blowing. There's a song on there called Sound The Alarm, I damn near burst into tears. It frickin' blew me away."

I hear there’s a new Styx album on the way. What can you tell me about the new music?

It definitely leans to a progressive side with a big, heavy emphasis on melody and lyrics. There are several songs and lyrics in there that — I haven’t even talked to Tommy about this — that are almost about what’s going on in the world right now. It’s like a prophesy with some of the lyrics. Part of my practice routine on the drums, because I want to stay in shape, is to rotate a few of the songs in my practice routine… there’s one song called “Sound the Alarm” that I near stopped playing and burst into tears while rehearsing, because it sounds like it was written about what’s going on today, like he wrote it today. So, next time I talk to Tommy, I have to ask him, what made you write that four months ago?

Do you have any idea when the new album might be out?

You know, I would have to say well into next year, because it might be months until I can record. They want me to record the drums in Nashville, and they want to all be there, so it’s not a situation where I’m going to record them at home and email them the tracks. They want to go into Blackbird in Nashville. and they want to do it that way.

With this in the near future and DDY coming out with 2 new albums its a great time to be a Styx fan. Hopefully all 3 will be worthy of the GREAT Styx name.

The new Styx 5.0 album will be released February 18, 2021

...and they are negotiating with Dennis, trying to decide when to start the reunion tour. They are torn between starting it on 2/29/2021 and 4/1/2021.

That's the song Todd mentioned in an interview a month ago, said he nearly "burst into tears" because the lyrics closely reflected what's going on right now.

I really loved The Mission. Great record. The only thing it was missing was 1 or 2 good rockers. I hope we get this with the new album.

I thought The Red Storm was a great progressive rocker.

I too loved the album. Also felt that the song Locomotive was one of the best songs Styx in any form has ever done.

Spjmds ok to me. Cant wait to hear the full band behind it. I hope they are finishing this sooner than later since they are not touring
