It's really great to see Dennis DeYoung in the top 20 of Amazon Best Sellers in Rock.

As of this posting, #11

https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-MP3 ... /195441011

Also his album was trending pretty good on iTunes over the weekend.

Yeah, not sure he'll displace Pink Floyd or Zeppelin... tho Jason Isbell seems to be hot right now.

True, however it was still nice to see his album chart that high :)

I had to look up Jason Isbell, I haven't heard of him before.

Also with DDY's new album, it bumped up Styx Greatest Hits.

Basically, yes. Pointing to Amazon charts has never been very reliable.

It dropped off of iTumes in just a couple days:
http://www.itunescharts.net/us/artists/ ... ast-vol-1/

So, it's over already.

For a comparison, "The Mission" charted very slightly higher and was on the chart for 8 days. Neither really tremendous or anything to brag about:
http://www.itunescharts.net/us/artists/ ... e-mission/

Steve Perry's "Traces" charted in the top ten and on the chart for 30 days. And, IMO, that seemed like a very mediocre release:

Over time I bet this album will sell pretty good, especially for Frontiers Records, I don't know hardly any of the bands they have on their label, I'm sure they are ecstatic to have someone like DDY album sales. Return to Paradise never charted over #100 and still sold 500,000 copies. I remember that the time it was the biggest album CMC International label ever released. How many total copies of the Mission were sold? 60,000? I'm sure whatever it is will be the max that the DDY album will sell.

I'm not sure what the current numbers are for the mission but would be interested to find out. Anyone know where we can get that info?

No idea, I have wondered that myself. RIAA tracks them and does have info on their website but they only list gold and platinum sales. I'd also, just out of curiousity, see some sales from Brave New World. I have searched online but can find nothing on either.

You need a Soundscan subscription to get sales data. They took over from Billboard in the 90s. Billboards methods for determining sales volumes (and their chart listings) were apparently terribly flawed because they would just call random record stores across the country to ask how many of X album did they sell. Then they'd use that to come up with a U.S. wide sales figure. SoundScan uses real tracking metrics to get a far more accurate picture.

Honestly, you shouldn't put much into Amazon charts. They are calculated hourly by some algorithm that nobody really understands. Look, this is a song from the #1 album on the rock MP3 chart...by a band called Alestorm....and no it is NOT Halestorm):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=749wEN2cuFA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4LNJfFjEvw

My God, it's like South Park meets Pirates of the Carribean. Too funny...but the #1 album? Really?

I think I may have to wait to purchase this here in Canada. Amazon.ca wants nearly $30 (with shipping and handling) for just the CD.
Sadly the exchange rate getting something from the US would be just as bad.

I'm still working luckily, but my wife isn't - she hasn't been working since the end of March, with the possibility of her return to work here in Alberta is June 19th. She was a busy massage therapist, and we're looking at between 10-12g in loss of wages over these past few months.

She does qualify for $2000 every month from the Government, but that doesn't even put a dent in our bills, mortgages, etc (We were able to defer our house mortgage, but since we also own a rental - too bad, so sad.. pay up oh, but you can't evict your tenants due to Covid, but you STILL have to pay your mortgage!)

Sorry to vent.. with everything going on it must be wearing me down - I can't even fully get into the new DDY songs - everything is just meh..

Hope things get better for you soon. I've been lucky enough to be working from home here in Ontario.

FYI, Amazon.ca has the CD listed at $23.79 right now. you can avoid shipping by spending $35 on your order.. though obviously still means spending $35.

Same, I have been working the whole time as well. My wife hasn't but they have been paying her and last week was her last paycheck. She works in the school district and they decided to pay everyone. However, she got a letter last month saying her job was being cut at the end of this school year so she has nothing to go back to. Strictly a budget cut and normally before school starts they bring jobs back. So hopefully she will be working again in the fall. She was a high school teacher but hated it (disrespectful kids and parents so she took a support position at an elementary school and she liked that much better. Teaching just wasn't for her).

Anyway, at this moment in time the mp3 downloads on amazon are at 322 overall and ranked 98 in Rock sales.

"Chart" implies some type of meaningful list. That is not what Amazon does. It's an hourly calculation that considers sales for the past hour along with historic sales that are put in an algorithm that produces a number for that product. Then those numbers are put in order. It is not a "chart" like Billboard or AT40.

26 East is MIA on the billboard album chart. Did not make the top 200. Sad! We may never see volume 2 at this rate.

Here is what The Mission did in its first week for those who may be wondering.

. #6 Top Rock Albums
- #11 Physical Albums
- #11 Vinyl Albums
- #13 Current Albums
- #14 Billboard Top Albums
- #16 Retail
- #17 Mass Merch/Non-Traditional
- #29 Digital Albums
- #45 Billboard 200 (includes catalog and streaming).
