The Grand Illusion turns 43

It was on this day in 1977 that Styx would release The Grand Illusion. It would elevate them to heights they had only dreamed of just a few years prior.

I wasn't alive when the album came out, I would discover Styx and their catalogue during my teen years in the late 90s.

From The Grand Illusion to The Grand Finale, the album would produce a stellar set of songs.

Here's an InTheStudio with Red Beard interview with members of Styx about the album (originally from 1989, updated sometime after 2000)

What are some of your memories of the album, its songs and the impact it had on you over the years?

I was home from school sick. That didn't stop me, from calling my local record shop about once an hour, to hear if it had arrived.
Late afternoon, it finally arrived and I jumped on my moped and picked it up, even though I was supposed to be in bed,
Played it solidly ,pretty much for a week.
Jesus loves you ,but everybody else thinks you're a knob.
