Since there is little fuel for the fire of discussion being provided by
eithere Styx or DDY these days.........I'm a little curious about the musical tastes and preferences of the people who post here, and why they like what they like..........we are all in agreement about
one group, lets see where we agree and diagreee otherwise.
Aside from Styx, I spend alot of time listening to:
Kansas - Steve Walsh's voice was absolutely awe inspiring in his prime.....and the musicianship( time signature changes, some unusual ones at that, and Phil's ability as a drummer are 2 things that stand out to me ) Great song writing too.
Pink Floyd - David Gilmour is a genius with his guitar, and Dark Side Of The Moon is truly a modern day masterpiece.
Dan Fogelberg - Forget about "Longer" this guy's voice is golden,
and he spins a pretty good lyric......If you havent listened to some of his older stuff ( 70's ) you should step out of character and give it a listen....you wont regret it !
The Beatles - I'm to the point that I have to walk away for a few years at a time, then it becomes fresh again......It's neat to hear them reinvent their sound throughout their years together.
There are many others, what are YOU listening to lately ? and who are your other favorites ?

Styx is number one, Journey, Foreigner, Metallica, Judas Priest, Rammstein, Def Leppard, Linkin Park, Boston, Outkast, Dr. Dre, Michael Jackson, Van Halen, Vangelis, Disturbed, Prince, Jerry Goldsmith, Eliot Goldenthal
I could get into almost anything except for Punk. I like big, epic-quality music.

Styx is one of the few older bands that I still listen to regularly; I burned out on a lot of the other 70's and 80's bands. I've been on a big Gin Blossoms kick lately, courtesy of them getting back together and playing in Lincoln this past summer. I really got into them big in the mid-90's. I also really like Linkin Park and Weezer. I don't normally like anything remotely rap-rock, but Linkin Park has a sound all their own, and it's quite addictive. Weezer, on the other hand, is modern rock, I suppose (lots of guitars and catchy hooks). Also first got into them in the mid-90's. On the lighter side, I listen to the Goo Goo Dolls. John Rzeznik (lead singer) tends to mix a lot of acoustic and electric in his songs (a la Tommy Shaw). I'd give them a strong recommendation for any Styx fan looking for something newer. Outside of these new bands, I mostly listen to burned CD's with a mixture of songs that I like from various groups, old and new, versus entire albums.

Besides Dennis DeYoung (of course) and Classic Styx

I also like Triumph, Journey, Night Ranger, Motley Crue, matchbox twenty, Dream Theatre, Rush, Van Halen, Accept, The Baby's, Loverboy, No Doubt, Train, Def Leppard, Honeymoon Suite, The Outfield and Pat Benetar. I'm still stuck in the 80's

Lately I've been listening to Asia, Shadow King, Def Leppard, Pat Benatar, U2, Foghat, The Hooters, Zebra, Dire Straits, Pearl Jam, LeRoux, Toto, Sammy Hagar, Cheap Trick, and Little River Band. Very seldom I listen to radio except for The Bob Rivers Show on KZOK Seattle in the morning, The Dan Patrick Show, and Jeff "The Fish" Aaron on KRKO in Everett which the later two are all about sports. From time to time I bring in CD's and listen to them during work especially when I work well into the evening. Mostly Seattle radio just plan sucks.

Accept? Wow, the times are few and far in between when I bump into another Accept fan! I have all their albums! I don't listen to them as much as I once did, but Accept is one of my all time faves! Have you checked out anything lately with Udo's new band?

I know it has been quite a while since its release, but Asia-"Aura" has been in heavy rotation in my CD player for 2 years now. If you have been hesitant about Asia in the Post Wetton era, I steadfastly stand by my recommendation of this disc. If you have doubts, I'd be glad to send anyone a copy to remove said doubts.
Evanescence is the only other 2003 release other than Cyclorama that deserves the GREAT GREAT moniker.
Good showing Panthers, look forward to a difficult schedule in 2004. At least I got to see them kick the Cowboys ass live and in person.

ek88, Accept is my husband's favorite band and I grew to like them too. Yes, we have every cd including imports. For Christmas I bought him both DVD's that are out. As for UDO, he was touring in our area 2 years ago, the date didn't work out for us. We'll be buying UDO's new cd at the end of the month when it's released. I've been collecting the older press kits and magazines and made an Accept book for the hubby.
Also Wolf's wife was nice to send us an autograph picture for my husband for his birthday. Accept is played a lot in the house, especially weekends. We usually have battle of the bands between Accept and Styx (and sometimes a little Abba)

Man Hands Man Hands Man Hands, I am SOOOOO sorry I touched a nerve !!!! You must not like my current taste in music. I cant believe you are not impressed that I have been listening to Manilow. Heck didnt You, Froy and Others talk about Mr. Montana, I mean Mr. Manilow for post after post a while back. You would of thunk it was a Barry site from the love and worship displayed toward him by ALL of you. Damn, I cant get that song 'ships' out of my head. Also, wasnt it you who once stated that if Dennis sang an entire CD of television jingles you would purchase it??? It was you!! So whats wrong with me listening to TV jingles. I know what it is, Yogi can only listen to Styx and nothing else. Hell, I am trying to impress you and expand my horizons. I guess there is just no satisfying you. News Flash to Man Hands... This is a STYX site. I am a Styx fan! You are not!! You are a Dennis Deyoung/Type1 fan PERIOD!!!!!!!! I happen to like both. But, I like both only up to a point . I am tired of listening to DDY's commercial jingles that you love so. Anyway, I still hope you continue to post here. The board needs people like you. 'We need you on that wall, we want you on that wall' Remember, if you work as a TEAM 'dreams do come true'!!!

I agree that out of the 'newer' bands that Linkin Park consistantly continues to be good and I haven't tired of them yet. Out of any of the groups/artist of the past 10+ years, they are one the better. I haven't tired of them yet. The Goo Goo dolls continue to surprise me to. As we discussed before, I also have many one songs from many new groups that are great from todays music.

Just got through listening to some hard rocking Neil Diamond, while reading and article about Barry. It left me wondering........ WHERE'S the Oven Mit, whoooooo I dont want to go there again,,,, I meant WHERE's Man Hands????? We havent heard from her since her last GREAT post wanting me OFFFFFF this posting area. I felt I explained my current taste in music rather well. Still..... no response form Man Hands. Hark.... I hear some Beneth The Moon,, Hunchback version blasting from the stereo. My wife must be home!! No one uses the word hark anymore. I wonder why??? It kind of went out when the smorgasbord became a buffet. Has anyone heard the rumor that DDY is in the process of writing a new musical about the life and times of the famous northern fish the smelt???? No way disney is on to this one!!! Peace!!!

Ouch, that hurts! (I'm a Cowboys fan). The sad thing is that I can offer no argument, they DID kick the Cowboys ass. The Boys never had a chance with the less than stellar tandem of Carter/Hambrick. Nuff said! For what it's worth, I was pulling for your Panthers in the Super Bowl. They played a great game, too bad they didn't pull it off! Now the New England bandwagon is starting to rear its ugly head, courtesy of a second SB win. (Bandwagon fans are a big peeve). Now just don't bring up 1996 . . .

Yogi, I don't recall talking about Manilow a while back, sorry. Yes, this is a Styx board. This Styx board isn't just for the current line-up of Styx. It's a board about Styx and all the members past and present. Styx is my favorite band. I prefer to listen to Classic Styx and not the current line-up. I also enjoy seeing Dennis perform in concert with an orchestra and his band. I don't see why you have to cut him down all the time. So you don't like his new music, you don't have to cut down my posts. If there's any new news on his concerts or music, I like to post about it. If I hear anything new about the current line-up, I'll post about it too.

Yo Man Hands,I like you, I really do!! Way back when that might of been me that burnt the back of your neck with my bic at the ORGINIAL 'Main Event', or 'Paradise Theatre' Concert Tours! It was an accident honest, I was just sooooo pumped to be seeing my all time favorite band in concert. Anyway, if that was you I burnt, sorry. As for the cut downs of DDY here is why. First off, as pitiful as I thought Dennis's contribution was for the Brave New World CD, I still couldnt even fathom( or in DDY's case Phatom), Styx without Dennis. I swear that is a totally true statement. Then as the facts became clear as to why he wasnt with the band anymore, plus hearing how good the new version of Styx sounded I TOTALLY changed my mind. I believe without a doubt Dennis forced Tommy, JY, Chuck, Todd, and even Glen to do what they did in regards to Dennis being removed from the band. He (Dennis) is the one to blame for the change. Dennis forced their hand. Heres how; #1, his ever changing tasted in the music. The band doesnt want to play the showtunes Dennis now soo much loves. Dennis is entitled to change his musical tastes, but he should NOT be able to force a band that wants to play rock and roll to play showtunes. What if his new love was polka music? Should Styx subject their fans to that too? #2 I believe totally about Dennis's sensitivity to light. Again, did he bring this on himself? By his own admission he was flying back and forth to Nashville, and he literally wore himself out to the point of total exhaustion and the upshot of this was this disease. So I ask you Man Hands, how committed could he have been to Styx if he was spread sooo thin he allowed this to happen?? He knew they were doing a new album, plus a tour would ultimately follow and he works himself to the point of illness doing something totally unrelated to Styx. How committed could he really of been to the band? If your favorite athlete was doing all sorts of other things and it caused him not to be able to perform in his sport what would you think? How about Aaron Boone and the Yankees? It's the same EXACT same thing!!! Will the Yankees still play this year? Damn right they will. I blame Dennis for the ENTIRE situation of him no longer being in the band. Thats my take on it period! You can twist things around any way you want but thats the facts as I see them!! Smile it's the weekend!!!!

Rather than rehash many of the same old tired arguments about which version of STYX is better, I would like to touch on one of your comments about spreading himself to thin. He made prior commitments to the staging and production of Hunchback, there was not suppose to be a "20 year Grand Illusion Tour". That tour came about because, the band's mgt and probably one or more of the band members approached Dennis about Chuck's medical probs, which were not widely known to the public. Dennis agreed to tour with the band to help his friend out and he honored his commitments to other people as well. Without the extra STYX tour (which I saw and yes it was great), I say DDY probably does his hunckback show(s), the band gets back together for an album which might have been better with a healthier DDY and some better contributions from TS and JY, and they do a fantastic follow on tour. But that never happened did it? No twisting here, maybe a little shouting though.....

Dee Jay, where you been hiding ? I havent seen any posts from you for a while...I see the Eagles on your list, have you seen them on tour ? I got to see the Madison show in October, it was really great, even from the nose bleed section !
I wish I would have known you were at the Rockford show, I would have looked you up...my wife and me were near the top row
on the stage left side....those are the only 2 shows I have seen in a long time, both were worth the price of admission.

I put this in Off Topic of Styx, so anyone can just bypass this post
I can't wait for the summer concert season to begin. I saw Dream Theater last night and they were AWESOME. We had front row seats. I was disappointed because it was suppose to be a 4 hour show with an intermission but turned out to be about a 2 1/2 hour show. I didn't realize that Dream Theater is mostly for men. There had to be 1 female for every 50 guys - LOL I was given a guitar pick and handed the set list, a nice addition to my collection.
Oh by the way, believe it or not, I was wearing my Dennis Roboto concert 2004 shirt and was given the "thumbs up" by the lead singer and guitarist when they pointed to my shirt.
I'm looking forward to seeing Rush this summer too. Hopefully I'll great tickets again.
Anybody else have any summer concert tickets?

I thought as a newbie, I would wade into this topic (and "wade" is the operative word here!) with some of my favorite music/musicians.
I have always been a big fan of progressive rock, so I really like Kansas, ELP, and the Moody Blues.
I liked a real early group called Spirit.
The Beatles were one of my all-time favorites and I own just about everything they recorded -- on vinyl!
I love great singing and great harmony, thus, Def Leppard (love their close harmony), Journey, Foreigner, Paul Rogers, Rod Stewart.
The Police were one of my very favorite groups and I like Sting's solo work very much.
A-Number One --- Styx. I don't think any group had harmony to match theirs and the additional incredible interweaving of that with their instruments. Nonpareil !
Bugsy
