Styx Question of The Day

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Sat Feb 21, 2004 3:54 am

Does anyone remember seeing the ad that you could win a Styx
customized van?

If I'm not mistaken, it was in the Billboard Magazine Feb. 24, 1979
issue.

Here is the question: Does anyone know what ever happened to the
van? Was there an article of the person that won it?

Just wondering

Sorry, Suite, I was only eight. I don't think I read my first Billboard magazine until five or six years after that :D

I was lucky 13, I have a lot of the magazines from the 70's & 80's that feature Styx. I just came upon the ad and I don't remember seeing anything about someone winning it :)

Ahhh, you can't fool us, Chicago. We all know that is the van Styx is currently using to travel around the country on the "Support the Band Who Actually Sells the Tickets" tour. :-P

I don't know if it was reported by Billboard who won.

I don't remember why, but I DO remember that Styx ended up getting sued because of that van and contest. I can't remember the specifics. I think something happened like, the van got won by more than one person somehow? Some stupid thing like that. Anyway, Styx got sued because of that van.

What I heard was instead of the van having an antena to receive FM radio reception it came equipped with an aerial. One night the winner of the van had 8 other people with him and they all caught van aerial disease. Because of this Styx was sued. The van was then dumped down by the river.
