New Styx Info & Best of Collection

I read this on another board:

Styx will be at the Hard Rock Cafe in Universal City, California, on Monday (March 15th). They'll do an acoustic performance and announce their upcoming tour, which will have them on the road from early May until early July with Peter Frampton and Nelson. Styx will also reveal the details of a new best-of collection, which will feature 35 songs from throughout their career.

Let's see, another "Best Of" collection of Styx songs. This time there will be 35 songs!!! Do you think they would include any Dennis songs? I personally think they would have to, otherwise your going to hear a few more versions of Blue Collar Man - Egad. If they add Dennis' songs, do you think a few from the Carrot Cd will be added to? I'm very curious which 35 songs are going to be picked. I guess I'll have to just wait and read about it on Monday - UGH, I hate waiting!!!

From what I understand there will be nothing from CMC or Wooden Nickle, because it is being put out by Universal(A&M). I would bet it is the exact same CD Froy and I already own(E-bay purchase from Korea). If it is I will be bummed, but for the rest of you it is an awesome collection.

All Dennis? Boat On The River,Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Crystal Ball, Fooling Yourself, Havent We Been Here Before, Mademoiselle,Sing For The Day, Love In The Midnight, Too Much Time On My Hands, Snowblind. I dont have the CD's in front of me, my track listing may be slightly off, but I wrote a track listing in another thread. The Thread(Assembly Line) was called New Styx Compilation & DVD? How do you figure this is 'all' Dennis?? Are you drunk or stoned?? All Dennis?? My bad your right , that was Dennis singing lead on Fooling Yourself, and Renegade?? Now their is no JY led songs( other than JY's parts on Snowblind) on this set, still I will make you a small wager this release will be the one we already have. I'm betting it got released,in Korea, and maybe a few other countries, it wasnt suppose to be released for some reason( band or label fighting) and it got pulled from production before it got over here.

Anyone have any thoughts of what they'd like to see on this 35 song cd's comp? Espcially if nothing from WN or CMC will be on it?

Best Of Times------------- Pieces Of Eight
Show Me The Way------- This Old Man
Come Sail Away---------- Sing For The Day

Suite Madam Blue----------- Music Time
First Time------------------ Too Much Time On My Hands
Mademoiselle---------------- Fooling Yourself

This cd that you have contain 29 songs. The new cd may contain these and then 6 extra songs. There sure are a lot of Dennis songs on this list. I'd like to see the video footage of them announcing the new Anthology collection and talking about the songs on the cd. I highly doubt they'll be taking questions from the press.

I have to admit... I don't give a "rippin rats ass" about a new greatest hits album or boxed set or anything of the sort. I have all the albums (except for Cyclorama which I downloaded the Mp3's of the two songs I like off Styx's own web site) and all the live stuff - I mean what could they possibly put on a box set that I would want to pay for?

I hate to be so ornery about it - but for crying out loud... ANOTHER GH compilation?

I bet it out-sells Cyclorama tho :-D

It's a GREAT collection. The only real hit that is lacking from this set is Lady( Wooden Nickle ). Froy, you are TOTALLY melting down. The song total on this collection is: Dennis 18- Tommy 11. Explain to me how this collection is 'ALL' Dennis? Tommy wasnt even around for Equinox, or Edge Of The Century. Theres a bunch of songs from those two albums on this collection( 5 or 6). Hell, Dennis should have more songs on any Styx 'Greatest Hits' type collection that only includes the A&M era. Tommy wasnt even around for 2 of the 8 A&M releases. To say this CD is "all Dennis" you are either drunk, high or doing WHAT YOU DO BEST which of course is DISTORTING THE FACTS!!!!!!!

To make Froy happy I did hear the six additional songs to be added to this collection are: Little Girl World, This Is Not A Test, True Confessions, Lonely School, Fire, and GREAT WHITE DOPE!!!!!

Here are my thoughts on this as of today and after reading some of yours-
For those who are die hard Styx fans and go out and buy everything they put, including ALL of the GH already, they may not even purchase this. Those though who want to support Styx in any way, will.
If this get promoted properly and contains what is should, it could do very well. Even though it's another GH, it will be nothing like the rest that are out there
Not everyone today has a cd burner and depending on the cost of this cd, it could do well.
The GH that contains Lady, not the classics one, is still doing well, and that's just via commercials and touring.
The casual music fan, like many I know, only purchase GH from bands that have been around awhile. I guarantee you that if this contains the right tracks and gets put front and center at Best Buys lets say, it will do very well. A friend of mine works at a Best Buy and GH and comps, especially of older groups, do very, very well.
When you say 'Styx' to someone, they usually can name of a Dennis Styx song. If this has, which it should, enough Dennis songs on it, it should do well. Most times when you hear a Styx song on a commercial, tv, or in a movie-it's a Dennis Styx song. Who knows, but we know what the Kilroy VW ad did for the GH. Dennis' Lady cow/cheese commercial is getting played in very heavy rotation here and from what I have been reading. Marketing truly, truly does work. For those who enjoy musci but don't spend a lot of money purchasing cd's today, a song used in something can hit that spot. Depending when this comes out, and how much the cheese commercial keeps getting played, it could prove to be very clever.
To all those who don't want to support Styx as they are today, just remember something. When a comp or GH cd comes out and it contains a lot of Dennis' songs, he gets a nice slice of the pie. Who really knows now what Tommy gets after giving up his rights years ago. JY doesn't get much and the new boys-not sure how that works for them but I am sure some songs off of Cyclorama will be on there. Ricky at this point may only be getting paid just to play.
I don't believe it's going to be selling like hot cakes, but I do believe it will do better than anything has for Styx in a while besides GH.
A lot of artist are getting clever now. To combat boots being sold on ebay and illegal downloads, they are including cd's and dvd's in the same package and marketing it as, 'but the cd/get the dvd free.' If this cd was packaged with let's say oh the 'Kilroy' dvd, it would do well. Say what you will about the whole Kilroy thing, it has become huge pop culture and I have been reading that many are looking forward to it being on dvd.
Think of it like this too. A lot of people are still trying to get the music they like on cd, with the proper songs on it, many might just grab this for now. Also, the new fans and with the new tour coming up. Money is tight for a lot of people these days. They might be more apt to grab this over a bunch of Styx cd's. When I first started to purchase cd's I know that I bought a lot of GH or comps. Granted this was when cd's first came out but I think a lot of people are still trying to replace what they have for a cd and this just might due for now for some. I really believe a new fan would buy this over a standard issue cd.

I'm sure most of you know that MOST bands have songs that were recorded just sitting somewhere. These songs were never released, never on any type of album, cd, tape, etc.

Who knows, there might be 2 songs on there that we never knew existed. Then some of us die-hard Styx fans will have to buy the boxed set  Egad, I REALLY hope "Blue Collar Man" isn't on this one - LOL

Look at "Unfinished Song" is was released on just one album (which was a re-released album) one-time. I personally like that song and just won the original cassette tape on Ebay - yippee

I hope there'll be a few surprises (PLEASE) on this Greatest Hits.

Do you really believe that these 2 goofy looking guys are going to release 18 songs with Dennis on it ?
Did we not already have GH1 and 2 ?
They are reselling product because there is a new royality structure ,
Very simple to figure out ,

I swear you must be a bitter relative of Dennis. Your more pissed off than he probably is. You have got to be the BLINDEST person I have never met. What in the HELL makes you so sure Tommy and JY have ANYTHING to do with this release. It could be some suits somewhere that thought 'hey this would be a good way to make some cash we own the music,(Universal/A&M) they are still out there touring, Dennis is now out there touring lets release a box set'. 'Styx fans have never had a 'Box Set', Essential Journey sold well, what a GREAT idea' You are sooooooooo TOTALLY bitter and blind its even funnier than some of your slanted these must be the facts even though I have no real clue what the facts really are insights. Then again you may be a BITTER BITTER relative. Either way you are BITTER and BLIND. Getting back to what we all hope will be on this release.. new unreleased material. I wonder what happens if they do have some A&M unreleased new material, but its from the album that was suppose to follow Edge of The Century. There was no Tommy in that rendition of Styx and there's no Glen or Dennis now. What happens???? Do Dennis, Glen, and the others that were in Styx have the OK to release it? Does Tommy have to approve it. Could Desert Moon or any other solo A&M Dennis or Tommy songs be on a release like this? I would still bet its the CD's I already own. Froy, it's time for you to head back to your planet, where its always 1977. Hurry, I think Happy Days is about to start, that Laverne sure is HOT!!

If I can ask a small favor.....

Please break things up into paragraphs as it makes it easier to read. I tried three times to read the previous post and I just can't becauseitalllookslikethetextrunstogethereinawaythatmakesmewannagomadAAAAAHHHHHHHH.

I'm sure, however, you had something meaningful to say :)

Thankyou for that meaningful suggestion. I am really looking forward to reading your next novel. I enjoyed reading 'A Love Foretold' very much.

I also hope that you will put another of your husbands musicial singles inside your book. I think it may help you to sell more copies. I did not mean to offend you with the above, it is just an idea of mine to try and help you.

Sincerley,

Yogi

ok so .... that made absolutely no sense. Another of my husbands musical singles? Ok... well whatever.

At least you broke up your sentences into paragraphs so I could read the words - the understanding of what exactly those words meant when put together is still somehow eluding me. Perhaps after a good night sleep.

Being a male person with a wife, I would have a hard time with something regarding "my husband" but hey, life in your world :)

I think there will be some material that is not released yet. Maybe a live track of two from a tour in the 70's or early 80's. Styx might not have anything to do with this release. It would all depend, I think, on whatever contract the group signed with A&M back in the day. Universal might be free to make any comp they want and not have to include input from the band (though they should). The Rockers comp was all TS & JY so MAYBE Universal made an exception, who knows. I could be all wrong and probably am but that is OK with me. If somebody knows differently on how A&M/Universal puts together the Greatest Hits comps please speak up!

I will buy the new Anthology because there will be something on it I don't have or there will be songs on it that are re-mastered and hopefully will sound better than the current issue CD's. I also don't mind throwing some of my money to Styx (old) and showing that there music is not forgotten and is still in demand. I did not buy the Rockers comp because of it's omission to Dennis's contribution to the band.

I too plan to wait and see what this release contains. Like Suite, I just am sooooooo not looking forward to yet another rendition of BCM  I would like to think there will some previously unreleased material on it. If not, then boy, I would think most of their fans, new or old, would be a little tired of all of these greates hits compilations.
