Did anybody read Tommy's note about Reagan on the styxworld site?
Not only did he acknowledge the presence of DDY  but he also called him a crybaby  AND admitted that he himself was a crybaby  !!! Blew my mind :x . If you think I am pulling your leg I invite you to read it for yourself.

Bugsy,

I'm guessing he's being cute. I think it refers to the part where Tommy says they all had red-rimmed eyelids.

I'm glad he included Dennis in the memory.

STYX News
Ronald Reagan 1911-2004: Meeting the President in 1996
In 1996 we were invited to meet President Reagan at his office in Santa Monica during a stop on our "Return To Paradise" tour. Jeanne and I, Chuck Panozzo, Dennis DeYoung, STYX manager Charlie Brusco and our tour manager George Packer sat patiently in his reception area, talking to the friendly staff, the Secret Service and Dr. John E. Hutton, who was Mr. Reagan's personal physician during his presidency. Dr. Hutton told us how strong a constitution Mr. Reagan possessed, and how sad it was to see a man who, aside from suffering from Alzheimer's disease, was the healthiest men he knew.

Suddenly his secretary came out and announced, "The President will see you now." I was closest to the door and stepped forward, not knowing how close I was, and rounding the corner came face to face with Ronald Reagan, who smiled and extended his hand, and gave me a firm a handshake I'll never forget. I was not prepared for how emotional an experience it would be. None of us seemed to be. As we stood in a semi-circle around Mr. Reagan for photographs I knew that my eyes were red because I was so close to tears I had to think of other thoughts to get it together. I realized later when I saw the photograph, that everyone's eyes were rimmed in red eyelids. Mr. Reagan was very patient and gracious, as his friendly staff explained to him who we were and what we did. As he stood for a photograph with my wife Jeanne, a career stylist who naturally assesses all those she meets, she could not resist lightly running her fingers through his hair in the back, and commenting to him what wonderful hair he had. He was, as any man would be, flattered and sweet the way he blushed a little bit and happily thanked her for the compliment. I think I like the photo of him and Jeanne together the best, because it was within seconds of this exchange and his face is still a little flushed.

We looked at photos on his shelf of himself with some of his favorite world leaders. Before we knew it, our time was up and we said our thank yous and good-byes, and I knew it would likely be the last time I saw him. As I shook his hand one more time I told him, "You were my favorite President." He smiled with that kind of "Aw shucks" charm that still came through even though he was clearly not as communicative as we once knew him to be, yet still very much there at that time, coming to his office every day and doing light work, still being and feeling connected. Again, I swallowed hard to keep my composure. I meant what I said too.

Without being political here, which I don't mean to do at all, my memory of the Reagan years is one of a time of restored hope, renewed pride and confidence in the leader of our country who did his job with humility and a twinkle in his eye, the firm belief in the good in all of us prevailing over the darkness of doubt, and doing whatever it took to restore the Great American Spirit. Ending the Cold War without firing a single shot.
Rest in peace, Mr. Reagan. Your work here is finished, your mission was accomplished.
Tommy Shaw

Here's the article from Styxworld for those who didn't see it yet. Um, I read it and didn't see anyone being called a "crybaby". I'm sure it was emotional for all them during that visit.

I thought it was a nice gesture for Tommy to mention everyone that was with him that day, including mentioning Dennis.

I personally don't think Tommy has any issues with Dennis anymore, reading his interviews these past few months. I personally think it's JY that has the issues.

Sorry to be a bit cynical here, but if I had the income/revenue stream Tommy had in the early 1980's, Reagan might have been my favorite President too....His policies weren't too friendly to me at the time ( Making under 20K/year )

Trickle down economics is an oxy-moron, in my opinion.

I'm sure Reagan was a nice man in person though....and a true friend of the rich !

It needs to be noted to that when Ronny took office he inherited 21% inflation, an Iran hostage crisis followed by an embarassing and unforuntaely deadly rescue mission that cost several american lives, a depleted military, a stripped down CIA which did not have the resources necessary to see a Russian invasion of Afghanastan coming, etc etc. I think Ronny by far improved the America he inherited. Just like what happened during the Clinton/Gore admin, you can strip down the military, FBI, CIA and other programs tasked with defending the nation, pat yourself on the back about how well the economy is doing, then you have something like 911 which took years of planning coupled with a total denial or overlooking of an admin....guys like Bin Laden don't just happen overnight. When Al Gore is screaming for people to resign, maybe he should have included the following ones that did not happen: Janet Reno (Waco), Les Aspen (Black Hawk Down) and Bill Clinton (lying under oath and obstructing justice)
That all being said, I think Tommy has some memory loss. I remember all of the STYX members being very critical of the Regan admin. During an interview in New Orleans for the Kilroy tour, he referred to James Watts (interior secretary) as "Mr. Shithead". Watch CITA during Blue Collar Man, when he sings, and you can write your president about that....Big Ron was in office during 1983. I know Tommy, I know, it was the drugs....

Lord, does this mean John Kerry cant count on your vote ?   ????

I'm always up for a spirited political discussion, but it should probably be off line on private messages, or taken over to the Politics board here.

Classic - haven't made up my mind about John Kerry yet, when he says something, I guess I will. In addition, I guess the Regan being a friend of the rich comment you made and the trickle down economics comments were right on topic for this board and ok with Bugsy as well. OK, nuff bout politics, I thought Tommy made some very nice comments and reflections on a great man (IMO). My other comments, which are on topic, were that I seem to remember a very liberal STYX during their hey day, one that was very critical of that paticular admin. All in all it just seemed a bit contradictary, but nothing like somebody dying for even his or her hardest of critics to come out and say what a great person they were.
By the way guys, the way this board has been moving lately, it probably does not hurt to have an off the topic spirited debate. If you don't want to participate you can always decline. Somebody come up with something interesting STYX related and I will be glad to participate, always have. A glance over the last couple of months, will show by certain absence of some normal posters, I am not the only one that feels that way....just a thought....by the way who wants to discuss abortion now (joke)...
