Why in the world would they put Dennis on Rockline? (The seventh runner up on American Idol must have canceled) Are you sure it didn't say "Easy listening and Show Tune Line"?

Will Hung was too shy and nervous so they got Dennis instead.

I think it's great. I'm sure he will be quite entertaining. Must be able to still rock. Hung...well perhaps he can be Gowan's replacement...just kidding.

ROTFL
By the way, can
ANYONE on here prove to me that Larry plays the keyboards
live during their concerts???? I'm not talking about Dennis, past or present, I'm talking about Larry, only Larry.

I think a William Hung version of Rockin' the Paradise might actually be in IMPROVEMENT vs Larry's version !

I understand that Styx is in conversations with Mr. Hung. They want him to keep his schedule open for when the inevitable change of personel occurs yet again in their lineup.

I guess it sounds better than Carrot Styx playing at a corn fest where the corn has been featured more than Styx playing or a biker campground where they're going to be playing between the pitched tents (no offense to my biker friends) LOL.

I think that is the same place where Dennis opened for the "Six Flags Dancing old man"

Picking on "Mr. Six" is totally uncalled for...I mean, c'mon.....the man's got MOVES !

I don't know. Can ANYONE prove to me that Dennis isn't an alien who abducts random humans and experiments on them to see if he can get them to drink his and other people's bathwater?
That's about as relevant of a question as yours...and a bit more fun to write too.

What is funny is that right now Hung is more popular then Dennis and Styx COMBINED. Definitely something to consider when you start poking fun.

I am guessing where Suite was going with her question about Gowan is that with all the spinning, backwards playing, upside down playing, it would seem pretty hard to actually be playing live. I do not mean to suggest or imply that he isn't a talented musician, just curious if anyone can confirm he is able to do these acrobatic feats and still play live?

And, only somebody who approaches the band from a very biased perspective would ask such a question. Why should anybody doubt what they see on stage? And, yes, you are implying his abilities as an entertainer and musician by asking such a question...and basicaly saying that he's 'faking it'.

Just because Larry relies on technology to keep the various keyboard sounds doesn't mean he isn't playing. Midi keyboards are a wonderful thing. I am sure he is playing. It's really not a tough thing to do. Not like Styx keyboard lines are really intricate stuff. And if any of you bothered to go to the concerts he really only plays backwards when playing chords and some minor background notes.
Just because Larry helps put on an energetic show, doesn't make him any less of a musician. But then again, why should any keyboardist be locked behind a wall of their gear?
But I suppose the times i've seen Billy Joel do the same types of things that according to you I was mistaken.

Who said he was less of a musician? Why is questioning if he is playing live saying he is less of a musician? People comment all the time about whether or not musicians play live. Even I know Dennis recorded some of the music ahead of time. What's the problem with asking the question?
Chill out. Nobody said anything negative about the man or his abilities.
Sadie (who agrees no one should be chained to their keyboards)

Whoo! It's getting hot in here!!
I have no idea whether Gowan's keyboards are live or Memorex.
I do know that he is not "faking it" with his singing. No one who sounds that bad could possibly be faking it.
Got my fire extinguisher ready!!!

I was always amazed by the athleticism of Steve Walsh of Kansas
duing the late 70's......playing ( well ) with 1 hand while doing a hand stand on the other. A pretty amazing demonstration of Eye-hand coordination / Strength / Athletic abiliy.......if it was really happening the way I was seeing it. You have to have a little doubt when you see someone accomplishing a feat that seems impossible....or perhaps be a little gullible if your faith is that strong.
And yes, I sure hope that's Larry singing live.....if thats the best he can do on tape, well.....I feel sorry for him ! He is a dynamo as far as the energy he brings to his work though.

Nobody says you have to like Gowan. But, the inane attempts at attacking him certainly do show a lot about the character of those who are writing the posts. Tell Elvis hello.

I just thought that the new line up of Styx was playing live. Yes, I know the guitars, bass and drums are played live, I just didn't know that Larry didn't play live.
I personally don't have anything against Larry. He hasn't said anything bad in writing or with the press. I know he's a very nice person. On a few other lists people were commenting on how great he plays live in concert, when actually
most of keyboard parts are recorded.
I also didn't know that "Mr. Roboto" has never been played live, ever, on stage by any form of Styx (the ENTIRE song). I guess they couldn't sing in the robot costumes - LOL
I guess you learn something new every day
Monker, it's great to see you back on this Styx list

Aw Monker.........c'mon, I'm just having a little fun here, Gowan sings just fine....he just cant compare to Dennis in that area ( few can in my opinion....DDY's gifted in that way ) so his voice just stands out when that inevitable comparison is made.
Do I exaggerate on occasion when commenting on Larry's voice ?
perhaps. I suspect Larry ( or any of the other band members ) has never visited this board, and even if he has, I bet his skin is pretty thick.
I'd still like to here Larry and Willy Hung do a duet though....

Apparently some folks don't think anything is funny unless they initiate it. So sorry some of the things said have so offended you Mr. uh, "God-like creature who wrote it is extremely hostile. He feeds off the human psyche, seeks out the deranged, the unbalanced and the emotionally crippled."
So sorry my "character" has offended you.

I'm not offended. It's like every conversation on this forum turns into an opportunity to belittle Styx. That's sad. Is that all that is left that Styx fans can offer...the same lame ridicule that has gone on for five years or so? It DOES say a lot about the character of the people who can't move on after so much time. I mean, what will it take for you to accept reality? DeYoung in his grave? That's how it seems, a story that you do NOT want to end...and only something shocking and radical will get you go on to your next topic.
As for my sig...I don't care if you think it's funny or not...or take it seriously, or not...or even read it. Some people on Journey forums label me as an arrogant bastard who thinks he's God. So, I figure, fuck'em, I'll embrace it, twist it, mock it...and turn it into something completely different that some will still think has a ring of truth to it. "My God Can Beat Up Your God"? Huh? I am God and you can't beat ME up, nya, nya, nya!

Maybe you are just 'poking fun'. But, it seems to me that people latch on to it and drag it down to the level where this 'poking fun' is just an excuse to insult.
I doubt that Will Hung would even consider a duet with Larry...I mean Hung is famous now. Is Larry?
I would not be suprised at all if Tommy browsed these forums once in a while. He was on the original Styx mailing list years ago. I think he may have browsed about on AOL back then too. Glen was on Prodigy years ago posting to those forums...So, it wouldn't suprise me if he was lurking. Todd seems to be up on 'net stuff so he may be around too.

It all depends on your perspective. BUT, I appreciate any and all of the comments posted here because they present all sides of the picture.
There is a good group here with a wide divergence of opinion and that is what makes message boards like these interesting.
But one must never lose perspective here. To quote an old Bob Dylan line: "You're right from your side and I'm right from mine."
A little kidding around is always welcome, I think, but that is only my opinion.
To quote Sadie -- Peace!

In case you didn't notice Monker, it was ChicagoSTYX and you who began warming up the room with the negative comments. Look no farther than than for the source of what you're complaining about now. Please don't lecture us about character.

LOL. Nobody controls you. Nobody is forcing you to act a certain way. Is ChicagoStyx some kinda Styx God who has power over your words in this forum? Must be nice to have so much power.
As for me taking us down this path...Will Hung is a no talent who is propped up by an industry willing to capitalize on anybody's fifteen minutes of fame. That is why Rockline, or any other interview show, would kill to get him on. Talent is irrelevant in the music industry nowadays. THAT is the point. But, you are so wrapped up in Dennis vs. Styx that you don't see that.
