Dennis' Opening Act

PostPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2004 11:53 am

I would have done this sooner but was asked not to say anything just yet, but just got an email confirming that Dennis will be in Ohio on the 13th in Toledo and in Columbus on the 14th.
I am also aware who the opening act will be, but cannot say just yet. I feel that most people here will be happy with who it is.If you guys want to guess who you think it will be, whoever guesses correctly, can pick from some things I have. 8) :P
I just really enjoy it here and am feeling better these days.
Good luck and have fun!
A lot more info regarding Dennis will be out very soon for those who care! :D
The crib was also updated a couple of days ago.

Yes, several of us know who it will be. The fun is in letting people be surprised. As for who it is, it definitely harkens back to the 80's. Some will be happy, some not. Depends on what you are looking for.

Interesting though that this got posted elsewhere just today and now shows up here. Small world I guess. Bring it on Dennis.

Wow, I personally received an email too, with the Ohio dates and the band information 2 weeks ago. Wow  it is a small world, just like Sadie said.

I'm looking forward to the Milwaukee/Chicago dates early next year. Hopefully it won't be too cold and snowy - LOL

Tommy Shaw ? He was a force in the 80's wasnt he ?

You friggin insiders just love to torture the rest of us, don't you ?

I'll tak a wild guess and say "The Outfield" 'cus frankly, I dont have a clue !

Where else did this show up at? Why do you guys keep making hidden sarcastic cocky comments? I was just trying to have some fun with those who didn't know. I was well aware that a few others here would know too. So what. I knew that you two, especially SMB would have something to say or be the first to reply to this. This is not some competition here, although it seems like for some it is. I just don't have to be the one first one to post about it, give everything away, or show what I know. We get the point by now SMB that you have to let us know that you already know EVERYTHING.

Sorry guys, I am going to close this out. I knew that some members would come in and make hidden, cocky, sarcastic comments/suggestions and ruin the fun.

Peace, pieces

I'm guessing The James Young Group, or A Flock of Burtniks( check out his Kiss Your Ass Goodbye from his video disc on Welcome To Hollywood)

Pieces,

I made no hidden, sarcastic comments. I merely commented that it was interesting that it had appeared on the same day it was posted on another list. To be quite honest, I believe you are on the list, however I've no wish to drag this out for those here.

Timing is everything. I do mean to imply anything. It was just an observation. Relax.

Oh PLEASE!!! Geez, I'm just trying to have some fun. And by the way, I don't know EVERYTHING!! Thank goodness I added the "bragging" part on my tag-line, whew. :D

It just was kind of weird that I posted the exact dates on one group - a Dennis group, and it showed up here by you (shortly after I posted it), just like a few other of my postings from Dennis groups in the past with the exact information that I posted. I don't have time to look them up and I don't really care to try to "prove a point". No biggie.

It's also interesting that, and I quote from you:

I knew that you two, especially SMB would have something to say or be the first to reply to this.

Hmmmm, how would you know that Sadie and I would have something to say or be the first to reply to this? Hmmmm

I post things on here that I find off of the Styx Board for the current line up of Styx, that fans on here might not have seen before.

I don't want to drag this out with you Pieces, I'm not in the mood

We can still have fun with "guess the group", as the guys still are.

LOL, you guys aren't even close with your guesses. :D Alan Parson Project Live is opening for Dennis in Detroit. Tommy Shaw is busy with another band - LOL, the James Young Group isn't back together right now, I'm not sure if Glen's music would fit with a symphony. The Outfield is a good guess, I wouldn't mind seeing them but that's not the band.

There are a few bands and artists that will be "double-billed" with Dennis for the Fall/Winter tour. It's not going to be the same band at each venue. Some shows it's just going to be Dennis with no openers.

Isnt Hank Horton(James Young Group), now with Dennis?? I will take a few more guesses. Men at Work, Devo( in Roboto masks), Pat Benetar, or Kool & The Gang!!!!! Since you have inside info, is Dennis coming to Texas?????

The opening act for Dennis will be Carrot Styx. They will have a 15 minute set of the All-Tommy Hits. OK, maybe 20 minutes.

(Please. I am joking here!)

Some shows it's just going to be Dennis with no openers

And those would be the ones I would like to see.

Yes, Hank Horton is a part of Dennis' band and plays bass. He doesn't take sides with the Styx break up. From what I remember, he is still in contact with JY. Hank is a very nice person and is VERY funny.

As for Devo, they're not together. Mark Mothersbaugh and sometimes his brother, write the music for Rugrats, other cartoons and numerous movies. So he wouldn't have time to tour - LOL

I wouldn't mind seeing Pat Benatar, but no.

Kool & The Gang - sorry no - LOL
Thanks, now I have the "Celebration" song in my head!!

As for Texas, I haven't heard any dates yet or no further info. I know that they're working on the South (FL & GA) dates.

Carrot Styx - LOL

Hmmmmm....the 80's you say ? How bout Starship ?
 " We built this city on Rock n Roll......."

( just TRY and gat that out of your head ! 8) 8) 8) )

Is Grace Slick still alive ? and if so, does she have any WORKING brain Cells left ? I actually always liked Mickey Thomas ' vocals.....too bad he had to sing that schlock towards the end.

Deborah Gibson was the teenie bopper of the 80's that was fairly keyboard/pop based but has moved toward broadway stuff in her adult life. It may not be right but it would be an interesting pairing.

YEAH!! SMB got an email TWO WEEKS!! ago. Thank you for letting us know that! YOU win! :P
UM, it's a given that Dennis will be in the midwest area the first part of the year.

A-HA !!!!!!! ( is is A-HA ? .............)

Taaaaaaake ohhhn meeeeeeeeeeee!

God, the 80's really sucked ! ( or at least much of it did...)

Cant think of his name, but didnt some lead singer of a very popular 80's hair band recently play Jesus, in the broadway showing of Jesus Christ Superstar. He the quit this role to get back into the rock scene. Could this be who is teaming up with Dennis? The ties are there!!! Was it Vince Neil, or Brett Michaels????

Well I know Sebastian Bach did Jeckyll and Hyde on Broadway for a while. And no it's not him either

Classic...stop you're killing me. I just heard an ad on the radio for some running event here..."One hit run"...featuring Tone Loq, A-Ha, and a few other one hit acts from the 80's and 90's. ANd the first thing I thought...was the 80's produced some really bad music.

Well it looks like Wiseguy came out of lurk mode to make comments to me. I'm sorry, it really wasn't 2 weeks ago for the email, it was 16 days ago, I just checked. I posted the "2 weeks" to make a point, not to brag. I don't need to "win" anything. The reason I didn't post the Ohio dates on this board was because it wasn't listed on Dennis' site or Ticketmaster, that means anything can change. As for mentioning any opening band, there's a possibility that could change too.

Yogi, I think you're thinking of Sebastian Bach playing Jesus Christ Superstar. It took me a while to find out who it was - LOL

Here's a review:

http://www.knac.com/article.asp?ArticleID=1529

I think I read somewhere that Bret Michaels is into Country music, or was that someone else from the hairband era.

I like Aha's video, that was one of the best during the MTV video time.

I think Grace Slick is still alive.

I liked Debbie Gibson's music - LOL

You know, I think one of those old crunch metal bands of the 80's might make an interesting opening act. Judas Priest? Slayer?
Of course, they would all need walkers to get onstage. and "crunch" takes on a whole new meaning. More like the creaking of old bones.

80's music? Video Killed the Radio Star.

How 'bout Billy Idol? Or Billy Squier? Or Billie Jean? I think Michael Jackson is in need of some gigs about now to pay legal bills.

Just some ideas thrown out here. I kinda like the Men Without Hats idea, but I think their lead singer is now a dentist or something. But he would know the drill!

Hey, I LOVE my 80's music - LOL You're all making fun of the bands and songs that I like  Actually, I liked a couple that were mentioned.

Oh great, now I have the "Safety Dance" song in my head. I sure didn't like the video.

Did anyone see Judas Priest lately? I heard that the shows are pretty good.

Most of "my" bands are getting up there in age :( I just checked and Debbie Gibson is now 34 years old!!

Actually, there were some great songs in the 80's.....I'll think of something in a minute..........

OK, I admit I was, and am, a huge Duran Duran Fan. Talk about a video ready group of guys!

And I am going to make a guilty pleasure known, I have always had a fondness in my heart for 80's hair bands. Poison, Warrant, Winger, Whitesnake, Def Leppard (well, they weren't a true hair band) ... you get the picture.

What I liked about those groups, and many like them, is they had fun with their music. Everyone seems so angry now.

I do draw the line at Taco, though, Sadie.

I will say this. I will take 80's music over almost anything out there nowadays.

I tried to figure out who Taco is. Ah yes, he sang "Puttin' on The Ritz". I had to search and search on the internet. I found a website dedicated to him and it says that he's living in Germany, unless the website hasn't been updated.

We're you thinking of Falco? He died in a car accident in 1998 and he sang "Rock Me Amadeus". Here's his website:

http://www.falco.bkl.at/index.asp?lg=EN&sid=1

For all you Falco fans out there. :)

I saw George Michael on Oprah in May. His voice was still good, I hate to admit, I wouldn't mind seeing him in concert.

Right Said Fred, well, um, I'll pass.

Thanks for thinking of us ladies, Classic :D

I wouldn't mind seeing Rob Thomas (of Matchbox Twenty) open for Dennis since he now has a solo album coming out.

The Monkees made a comeback LP and did a reunion tour in 1986....does that count ? Dennis could sing a few of Mike Nesmith's parts during their portion of the show !

( if someone will pm me the names of the Acts that will be on the bill, I'll stop.............)
