Recommended Gowan Music

Postby Andrew » Thu Nov 04, 2004 9:17 am

I'm a bit late reporting back on this, but for anyone interested, the best Gowan solo releases (in order) are:

You Can Call Me Larry
Lost Brotherhood
The Good Cathces Up.

Anyone who check these out - please let me know what you think :)

Highly gifted songwriter and pianist, not to mention singer and for me, a personal favourite....I wish he was still solo (no Styx related comments needed there!)

Thank you very much for those recommendations, Andrew.

I am very convinced Gowan has talent. I, personally, am so turned off by his voice that I have a hard time listening to anything he sings.

MY opinion only here. There are a lot of people, including you, who like his voice but for the life of me, I do not understand why.

Let me add, though, that I, for one, appreciate when you post information we can all use over here.

Personally, I would recommend the CD Strange Animal. This CD, if still available has Criminal Mind on it. This is by farrrr his best solo tune. The songs City Of Angles, and Cosemetics are both pretty good. As for the rest of his solo material.... Brutal in my opinion. I do only own two other of his CD's.Great Dirty World, and his Greatest Hits. I do not like either one at all. I am not a real big fan of Strange Animal, but at least it is listenable.

As for his voice...... I like it. I like his Styx renditions, and his work on Cyclorama. Sounds like Rush!!!!

I still say Larry singing Dennis songs reminds me alot of Bob Dylan Singing The Beatles "Yesterday"

Or William Shatner singing.......well, anything !

( shudder.......)
