Does anyone know of any live recordings of DB singing anything from the WSC album?

Now that, I'd like to hear. I just can't see DB singing anything off of WSC. By the way, when was the last time Survivor performed anything off of WSC? 1986? I think that speaks volumes. I know many, including JV, think this is a great album. Yes it sounds great, but I think the songs sound more dated than any other in the Survivor catalog.

S/T, Premonition, EOTT, CITG > Vital Signs, WSC, THTS

Why? Easy....JP once said JJ had a more pop vein to his delivery.

VS was one of my fav. albums ever, but lately I think CITG takes it to the cleaners.

You can't hear Dave singing Oceans? I can.

to be clear I have great disdain for that guy ATTEMPTING to sing Survivor tunes...I have led the band wagon charge for him to take over Quiet Riot...I loved Kevin DuBow! But I don't want to ever, ever, ever hear him sing The Search is Over...GAWD!!!!

Come to think of it, McAuley may be as cheesy as Dubow...see...I have made a LOVE connection!

Not to fight, but if I wanted presence and showmanship, I'd go out and watch Bret Michales again...I want Survivor! Give me Dave or give me death! Or at least JJ...hehehe

When Seconds Count. There is some great music on that record, but I think it sounds the most dated because of the keyboards. Having said that, Oceans friggin' rocks.

Actually I always thought Johnny Edwards ex-foreigner would have been a great choice, but clearly FS had a relationship with Robin already so replacing JJ with RM makes sense.

I think the PRODUCTION sounds more dated than anything else in the Survivor catalog. Lower the keyboards, add some bass, and crank the guitars and it fits in pretty well. Think something closer to the WSC Live video form Japan.

I could see Dave doing a couple of songs from that album. Can't Let You Go especially, Oceans, and maybe the bluesier version of Is This Love that JJ has done solo on occasion. Dave has that staccato, edgier delivery that works really well on the rock material, but less so on the more pop stuff (see his massacre of Desperate Dreams in '93).

It makes perfect sense on everything except being the right choice for the band. You can be a great singer and a horrible choice for a band at the same time. Think Steve Perry singing with AC/DC or Roth-era Van Halen. With the vocal differences between JJ and Dave Bickler, you have some amount of latitude, but you have to pick someone that sounds similar, especially at the stage where Survivor is at the moment with no chance for getting a new group of fans as was possible when JJ came onboard. Kevin Chalfant would work well in the band, as would Toby Hitchcock, and several others. What you can't do is throw a curveball by picking someone who doesn't sound like either previous singer just because you have a previous friendship with the guy---at least not while calling it Survivor.

Have you had a chance to hear Robin live? I think he sounds great on the rockers. He fits fine. My issue is when he starts singing songs off of Vital Signs. Those don't fit, although he give them his own spin.

At least via recordings. He just doesn't work for me. If/when there is new material, I'll give him a chance on that, but as far as covering the older stuff, his voice just doesn't make the cut. Nothing against him as a singer, just him as a singer on this catalog.

Take Frankie's cock out of your mouth long enough to listen to reason, dude.

People don't want Robin fronting the band on its soon-to-be-announced new 2033 album because his voice doesn't fit Survivor, not because they don't like him altogether. I love some of his work with MSG.

Great to see 7 back! and firing big off the bad!

I think the notion that anyone actually can ever pretend to think McAuley's presentation of Survivor is even close to respectable...much less descent and even crary to say enjoyable...is quite over the top!

Yes it is, one would have to normally find such humor and rapier wit at a bowling alley or jr. high play ground.
