Is there a future for Journey Through Time?

Postby danielb » Mon Apr 06, 2026 5:01 am

This recording of "Of a Lifetime" suggests there is. Neal plays as if it was still the 70s, Derlatka sings with soul and time pretty much stands still. The first wow moment of the concert, 9 songs in.

Although Arnel should definitely get an A for effort, he is sounding more rough than soothing on this current tour and he deserves a break. So do large chunks of the Journey catalogue. There's only so many times you can take the dirty dozen. The stoic crowd on the floor in Austin an indication of this?

The current band shines the most when they do songs like "Of a Lifetime", "Feeling that way" and other lesser played cuts.

Neal is clearly right in that there is life after Journey and probably with the current band minus Cain and Pineda. I am just wondering in which types of venues and under what name? Journey Through Time in theaters?

"Of a Lifetime" from Austin below. Derlatka clearly pleased with Neal's playing at the end:

He was promoting the name "Journey Beyond" again as recently as March 25th.

I think Rolie's involvement was part of the appeal of JTT.

I think Neal can rebuild if he chooses.

I think it's also possible Jon gives him the name "Journey" but demands he gets paid as if he is on stage every night - just like Perry does.

The major issue is that Journey Through Time / Journey Beyond will not make enough money touring to fund Neal’s lifestyle

And if Jon lets Schon use the Journey name to tour then I can only imagine what type of shit show that will turn into. The setlist that Neal will want to play will completely kill that type of crowd

How much does he need a month to sustain that lifestyle you're referring to? :)

Unless you're his accountant, that's all speculation.

People are always referencing Neal’s lifestyle, and I am sure he loves the rockstar life and money. But I can see him still playing in his old age in front of 200 people if that’s what it comes to. He loves playing.

And I am sure has plenty of investments working for him.

Yeah, I don't think that Neal will have any difficulty getting by with the money that he makes with Journey Through Time/Journey Beyond, or whatever the band will be called? Maybe they won't sell 20,000 tickets per concert? But they should be able to sell 5,000 tickets per concert with no problem. Unless Neal does something stupid like hire a singer who does not fit Journey's style.

If Jonathan and Arnel both leave, which it sounds like they will, "Journey Beyond" will be lucky to sell 1000 tickets, IMO. They will be performing free concerts at BBQ festivals and county fairs. IMO, they will be a Vegas internship at best.

Journey Beyond or JTT or any of these Journey adjacent bands feed off of Journey's success. Without Journey out their touring these bands will quickly mean nothing.

Neal will definitely have issues with the money brought in. Will he go back to living on a bus for a tour, instead of flying? Will he be happy playing free concerts while people walk around eating corn dogs? This is going to get old very quickly for him. Despite what he currently believes, he alone is NOT Journey. It's going to be a rude awakening for him.

Maybe Neal should apply to be the guitarist for Jason Kelty's Escape band.

Or, maybe put Journey to rest and reach out to Sammy Hagar to see if they can finally get a tour or other project together.

I feel Neal has taken Journey to the extreme to the point where it is only him. Give it rest already and do something else.
