I never have my lyrics mixed up, boy. That's where I wanted to take it. :P

Either way... I won't turn a brown-eye to this. I am gonna sue that bastard and make him pay out the ass. No 'if's, 'and's or 'but's. I'm gonna be real anal about this. Sphincter.

Any takers as to what exactly Neal whispered into Perry's ear at the Walk of Fame ceremony?

"Jesus Steve, ever heard of deodorant?"

"If you don't say anything about our penchant for wearing women's panties, neither will I."

"If you ever fire your Lawyers, please give me their number so I can retain them for my next divorce."

"If we hire that Susie P as lead singer, will that be ok?"

"If there weren't several hundred people here I'd fuckin' lay you out."

"Where did you get that nose from? Mount Rushmore?"

"Does Lee Phillips do divorces?"

"Dude, good job never getting married. All I can afford these days is this hideous flannel."

Now for what I really think he said: "Dude, I'm fucking glad you came. If you ever want back in the band I want you to know the job is yours. I miss your ass. Come jam with us tonight, man."

ProgRocker53 wrote:[To say that JSS is in the bottom third of the "Melodic Rock Food Chain" is downright preposterous.

Anybody in this part of the business, whether they're a customer or a musician, knows and respects JSS. There's a shit-ton of guys out there who would love to work and write with Jeff. Why else does it seem like he's working with somebody different every month?

Let's take a brief look at the people Jeff has written and performed with:

Journey
Queen
Talisman
Malmsteen
Soul Sirkus
Tempestt
Dokken
Steve Lukather (soon)

and a ton more I'm forgetting, I know...

Yes, yes... definitely in the bottom third of the MR chain.

He's been around for over 20 years. Please name Top 40 hits, gold and/or platinum albums, and songs played on the radio. And don't jack me off with excuses either, because artists want to have hits. And I know everyone repects him. People respected Mickey Morandini...doesn't mean he was a great baseball player. You, like others, simply can't differentiate a great guy from a great artist. He's a respected journeyman artist. Nothing more.

SJ, I've a question for you. I've seen you mention "great (whatever..singer, drummer, guitarist, keyboardist, etc)" and "hits, g/p albums, radio play, etc" in quite a few posts in several places. Is it your stance that for ANYONE to be a "great (whatever) they had to have met the criteria you've listed? Just curious.

If so, I find it odd that you might hear a new artist (of any sort) and not come away thinking/saying "wow, that artist is great," simply because they have not reached a pinnacle/bar set by the commercial industry of music. In the end though, "greatness," when it comes to a mere fan (not someone directly involved in the commercial business) is all subjective.

When did do anything with Queen? I know he did some tribute stuff, but actual work with the band. I'm not that familiar with his work. Talisman, Tempest, and SS big deal. Malmsteen was good, but they were there for Yngwie not JSS. But that lasted on one record. Dokken is that just recently? Lukather in 2008/9-wow!

Valid question that I'm happy to answer. When delusional fans refer to an artist in the same breath as Perry and Mercury, and at the same time blast and laugh at AOR legends like Joe Elliott, Bobby Kimball and Kevin Cronin, it's more than valid to ask what "criteria" they're using. I'm using album sales, longevity, hits, radio play, and tour receipts. I guess they use something different. Fill in gigs, half full bars, minimal units moved and excuses is my guess. I'm done here also. :)

Jon Bon Jovi WAS great. Now he's the Keith Partridge of Hard Rock... Actually, Brett Michaels is. I swear, he learned every vocal inflection from David Cassidy...

Or maybe the Alan Partridge of rock?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlhQ3iC54QM

You see, I never really rated Bon Jovi and it still amazes me how highly regarded they are when Journey are often ridiculed or classed as uncool.
I'm talking about the average Brit, here - you know, the ones I've mocked before because they think "More Than A Feeling" was Journey's greatest hit.
It still amazes me that those people think Tico Torres is a great drummer and yet they have never heard of Steve Smith. And they think Jon is a great vocalist but have never really listened to Steve Perry because the journalists at that time dismissed Journey as 'faceless.' And they immediately write off Journey as a "Girly rock band."
But, as we keep saying, we all have our own differing tastes.

My take on what "great" is = talent. Musical ability&skill, which unfortunately doesn't always equate with the number of sales.(Britney for example. Many sales. Little talent)
And of course my idea of talent is someone elses idea of crap.

Bon Jovi are still classed as 'Great'.
How many 80's era bands can still come over to the UK and play to a 40,000 audience and above? Not many, thats for sure.
Bon Jovi are possibly the only one's who can do that. Def Leppard? Nope...Aerosmith? Nope...Journey? Absolutely no freakin chance, 4,000 at a push.

Yeah, i'd say BJ are still classed as 'Great'
