Hey everyone

First off, I've lost so much interest in Journey because what has happened over the last recent months and how the ended their relationship with JSS. Things just seem like such a joke, and there's been so much dirty laundry aired. I used to love this band and the class they seemed to project.

I will say one thing, no one has ever come close to Perry, and quite possibly no one ever will. Hence the endless comparisons, etc. However, when I first heard Arenl (introduced to him from this site) I must say he's by far the closest to Perry. And I've heard them all. Arnel is bar none, slam dunk to closest in voice. Obviously not Perry, but sings with such ease...hit's the notes, and his delivery is hauntingly close to Perry. I do agree with another poster who previously said Arenel sounds better doing Heart (Alone) than Journey. I also saw the clip of him doing The Flame by Cheap Trick...very impressive. You've also got to keep in mind that his voice shines even with his band is not up to par and the recording quality being average at best....his voice still compensates over these set-backs.

I still have my reservations watching this band I loved for years thinking about hiring a tribute-type singer....maybe it's my issue, but it just doesn't fit.

The JSS fronted Journey wasn't my thing either, but I got it...I understood why. He was unique. Not Perry. Had is own style. Great guy. Had the stage presence. I felt he had some legs to maybe take Journey forward.

Now it just seems like.....well, so bland. I don't have any answers...just venting my thoughts.

Uh, to make this statement you have to be ignorant of Jason Kelty. Dude sounds more like Perry than Perry does now.

Truth is that Jeff did struggle on some of the catalog - I'm sure he would admit to that. Love him for the class guy that he is and what he gave all of us hard core fans last year. Sorry to see him gone but I also understand why the powers that be let him go. He was far from the traditional Journey sound - which I found refreshing. But, if it's important to the band to keep something close to the 'perry' vocal sound, then JSS was simply not that guy.

Arnel sounds nothing like Perry. He sounds better on the Stryper and Heart material. I am impressed by him on certain songs and have nothing against him at all. But Frig and Fro obviously are money grubing whores scouring the Third World to bank as much money as they can. I hope those ass clowns find misery and pain.

I also hope Arnel finds a good agent. All the best to him. I don't think he fits much more than a karoake singer, but I hope he makes some money if he gets the shitty gig.

Frig and Fro - go fuck yourselves.

The guy sounds better on the non Journey material. I did like his version of Heart's "Alone". Not so much on the Journey songs.

Journey have become the biggest joke in music. Fortunately no one gives a shit about them now, so it will fly mostly "Under the Radar".

So you are saying Journey can't find and use someone outside the US? What you only will accept is a white American singer? How narrow minded if so. To me this just shows Journey is open minded to all singers all over the world. Shows what an "international" band they are.

If this guy can sing the songs well and puts on a hell of a show, who cares where he is from or how he looks? Sounds like he can at least sing the ballads which JSS couldn't!

And unless you work for Journey how can you possibly know what really happened to Jeremy? Just because he says so? That's only half the side of the story. Heck if I was denied the gig I'd publicly say I turned it down too... although I don't believe Jeremey would turn down the gig. He was not good enough for the pro ranks, and thats ok. But call a spade a spade. Rockndeeno has proven he is just a loser loud mouth hidding behind his computer screen with no real inside information and only hate and spite to keep him company.

You've not only proven to contradict yourself, but that you SUCK at spelling. First of all, this board and just about everyone on it supports international singers. As long as they can sing the catalog. Arnel can sing, but he doesn't sing it the way I and many others want to hear it sang. You can't get up there and sing the Journey catalog with a foreign accent. It will not fly. The people of this board don't care if Journeys lead singer is pink, purple, green or whatever, and couldn't care less if they were from Russia, as long as they sing the songs the way we expect to hear them.

Now, like you were told before, go fuck yourself.

That's not how I read AR's post. His first comment was intended as an insult of course, but he went to further clarify that his main gripe was that Arnel sounds good on other cover songs other than Journey's. I happen to agree with this position and that's my only gripe with him as a choice to front the band.

Bottom line for me is he's simply not good enough.

Jeremy is in fact a better choice out of the two. He has a much better voice and sounds much more like Perry. If he did turn down the gig, he has a good reason for it. His wife just gave birth. Hard to leave your wife and newborn to tour the country for the first time in your life. That's a valid reason to turn it down in my book.

Did you hear the Arnel DSB youtube? He doesn't exactly hit the high notes.

I see that as all the more reason why he would NOT turn down the job. He would have the chance to set his family up financially, perhaps for life (if the revolving door did not hit him too soon). He would have a college fund saved for the child long before the child entered kindergarten.

Well, that's it peeps. This is officially my last post on the boards. No reason to continue now that Journey has taken a musical direction I can't get behind.

Good luck all-

Having been in direct contact with T-Time I can tell you that his information has been spot on. Ever think that what he says publicly and what he says privately may be two different things. People treated him like shit here. I reached out and received very accurate information. Anything posted here, whether it be Drew or someone else I usually knew about a week ago...if not more. 8)

Dude,

You are fucking killing me. The dude can hit most of the notes but he's a vocal chameleon. He can cover or clone a lot of different vocal styles for sure. The issue is that Arnel has no soul when doing Journey stuff. It requires soul to be successful and do this, and new music, justice. If there is a God in heaven, please make it Chalfant, Hugo or Jeremey but NOT ARNEL.

Jeez,

Aaron

I'd go see a Journey concert with Arnel. The kid can sing, so why not? I'd view any new music with suspicion, though. There doesn't seem to be much chemistry between Schon and Cain these days. They're just so far away creatively from where they once were. They'd have to write 30 songs just come up with 10 decent ones.

Andrew is this a gut feeling, an educated guess, or what? Has any credible information come out other than a few posts from Phillipine sources and a photo of Arnel with the band?

BTW, would Jeremey have had the opportunity to take a picture with the entire band? Is this a normal occurrence after an audition?

Then I'm through expecting anything more from a band that calls itself Journey. I'll always be a fan of the band that I've always loved as Journey, the one with Steve Perry, but to hell with the remnants of what was.
