I've no idea which night to go

If it were JSS/Hugo/Tyketto/Tall Stories then that would of been a dream.

I've seen JSS and Tyketto before.

But bloody Valentine and TS are playing seperate nights which is a pain.

hmmm

Er, if he's going to sing, he has a LOT to prove.

His voice was never cut out to sing the Journey catalog anyway. All of his own material is keyed lower. He did a good job but it was only a matter of time. Arnel, while having the stronger voice, might find the same fate if his voice isn't cut out for that range.

I hear a lot of "Glad he can sing in his own voice now" stuff and it's revisionist history to me.

From '98 until about Feb. '05 when 'gate detonated I'd never heard this reasoning.

Fact is he got the Journey job because he sounds like he sounds.

Eventually his voice blew out, which wasn't dissimiliar from what happened to perry around the same age (given the cessation of singing perry went through for long periods).

He had a journey sound to his voice, it blew out but to read posts you may think his Tall Stories vocals sounded like some deep-voiced baritone giant compared to his singing on Arrival or Generations...I hear the same voice on all.

I don't think so at all. I think it was terribly evident that he was singing in a different voice on most of the new Journey recordings. And when you listen to him sing WWMA and KMS softly among others you can easily hear it. I certainly enjoyed Augeri's years and still miss him but he struggled throughout his Journey career on tour. It just wasn't until near the end that it became apparant that the struggles were evidence of something more serious. He would have simply amazing nights and he would have some nights with "hiccups". It never seemed too serious until 2005.

Really? Because I have said for years that I wish he would sing more like his TS voice.

Yes, he had a Journey-sounding voice, but there is a definate difference in the TS and Journey material Steve recorded. I still think some of it has to do with his vocal coach. It is quite possible that how he sang in TS was not healthy and the coach likely taught SA how to sing while protecting his voice more. That coaching may have permanently changed how the techniques SA utilizes when singing, therefore changing his sound. We will see. But I hope I am wrong and that he can return to a more natural fit for his voice.
