Depends which one you're in the mood for, but E5C4P3 is my choice.

In case you've forgotten about this underrated gem, here's Lay It Down live in Tokyo, 1981:

Agreed! Thanks Niggy. And for you more visual creatures (like me  )....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3rQAcId8x0

Can't understand how so many don't like Dead or Alive either. Always liked the energy of that one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uuy2oSvT ... re=related

Thought JSS/Journey kicked ass on that one too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwNIIkd7yLw

Ok, gotchya. Love the setlist from that show. Great mix of old and new........only complaint for that one is they played almost every song off the new Escape except for Still They Ride. :(

I usually take "Frontiers" just barely anyway but with the original track list, it would be easily better.

Yes and no. It was mentioned sometime in the past that Only the Young and Ask the Lonely were recorded for Frontiers and pulled at the last minute for soundtracks. Basically, they just pulled two leftovers and put them on the album and used ATL/OTY later down the road so that Journey could release new songs when they didn't have a new album to promote--ie, keep the band in the press.

Both songs were recorded in the Frontiers sessions.

Definitely Frontiers. It's heavier, a bit darker as well. I'd take it over Escape even without adding Only the Young and Ask the Lonely.

Frontiers

ESCAPE - - those are not the songs on my copy of frontiers, so i have been honest at least. Have you?

I believe that the newest re-release of Frontiers has both Ask The Lonely and Only The Young added on to the disc?

Mine doesnt - if you want to do this surely - we go with the original listings? Not that it matters......................

I do like Back Talk and Troubled Child, but I think if they had kept ATL and OTY on the Frontiers album instead of pulling it for movie soundtracks, it would have been a much stronger album == on par with ESCAPE in popularity.

It seems most diehards prefer the harder edge Journey, but that's not the case when you think in terms of the music public at large. Both ATL and OTY has that appeal over the more obscure songs on Side B in the original Frontiers. Those songs would have balanced out the whole album. This is the ONE -- and only -- point that I agreed with HH in his interview with Andrew.

TBH, Escape in its original form vs Frontiers's original form is probably a bit better than Frontiers. But, adding ATL and OTY, Frontiers owns for me.

adding only the young and ask the lonely would've made frontiers a stronger album but also it would've made the album a lot more softer and commercial too.the original two keep that hard edge there, all of the radio hits are on the first side.

So tough, so c1ose to ca11.
Frontiers is more operatic, in that a11 10 tracks seem to f1ow, comp1ement and 1ead into the next.
ESC4P3 is more diverse a1most a11 over the map thematica11y. But then I heard a TBF era interview w/ Cain marking the 15th anniv. of the record where he said that was abs1ute1y by design. I think 1yrica11y ESC4P3 is a quantam 1eap forward from its 3 studio predecessors.
