Is that right? Are you sure about that, Deano? They never played Troubled Child in concert? I have quite a few Frontiers boots. I could have sworn I heard it played in at least one of them. Will have to check this out.

Don't think so. I have a ton of Frontiers boots and nothing....

I heard Journey soundcheck Troubled Child in 2006 in Chicago with JSS - but that's it.

First it's a very strenuous song to sing....the difficulty of the song and long held notes...takes a lot out of the singer, although I think Perry could have done it with no problem...so I think the reason is both acoustic and electric guitar are played...don't know if Neal played both parts in the studio, but figure he did....he couldn't do it on stage because the acoustic and electric guitar overlaps.....they would had to have brought on another guitarist just for this song.

Herbie admits to playing rhythm guitar, he could have done it.
Sorry, but as big of an ego Herbie has, he's no Neal or Perry...thats why he was a manager....and maybe bitter?...Sy Klopps?...paleeeezzzee!!

what? I love Sy Klopps. da blues.

and that's your opinion...and mine is Herbie Herbert is a joke..as a man and as a singer..Sy Klopps was a joke name ...he decided to bring it to life. I'm a huge fan of blues music and Sy Klopps is not good blues...sure he had some good musicians behind him but his singing?...UGH!

I love Troubled Child. I'll admit early on when I first got into Journey (Frontiers was actually the first Journey album I had ever purchased) I didn't listen to the b-side songs that much. I wore the cassette tape out on playing all the popular releases. But, the more I listened to Edge of the Blade, Troubled Child, Rubicon, etc...the more I started liking those songs; especially Edge and TC.

I think what happens is, when you know the era of Journey being at the top of their game is over, you long for that again. You long to hear something new from that era again (even though that's probably impossible.) So, you go back and revisit those songs that were never released to the radio, and you "rediscover" those songs if you will. That's what happened to me with Troubled Child, Edge of the Blade, New Frontiers, and Rubicon. I don't dislike Backtalk, but believe it's the weakest track on the b-side. Still, I rediscovered those songs and love listening to them about as much as Separate Ways or Faithfully.

I LOVE this song! If only they had dropped BackTalk from that album & replaced it with ATL or OTY...that's what they should've done.

I agree that Only the Young and Ask the Lonely should've been on the album. However, that gave us a little Journey on the radio in the years between Frontiers and ROR. As I've said many times before, the "B" side of Frontiers is one of my favorite things to listen to of all things Journey.

Oh damn...I'd have love to have heard it with JSS. Ugh - the ONE time Journey tours and I go to ONE concert instead of four, the JSS tour has to be the one.

My luck is not so hot.
