If Arnel is the man, he deserves it! Great upper register and tone. I agree with other people....the sound quality from the equipment on some of his clips are not the best. With a first class sound system, he will do wonders! Awesome set of pipes! I look forward to him being a member of the Greatest Rock n Roll band of all time if an announcement is made

When you have these Youtube clips playing, just take a listen to each of them without looking at them and close your eyes and let them play out...His sound and tone is very similar to Perry in the early days....Looks like Journey has the classic sound back if thats what they were lookin for.

This guys sings the shit better than anyone I have heard besides Perry. People loved Augericurl and that I will never figure out. The guy was a feminine poodle with ZERO FUCKING emotion in his voice. He was so underwhelming in so many ways. He had a couple of shining moments and that was Higher Place, Remember Me IMHO and everything else was dogshit from every angle. I never liked Augericurl because he sounded too weak doing the classics and lets face it, the classics are all they really have because every album since TBF has been 98% filler. Can this guy write is the question we should all be concerned about because we know he can sing the material.

Last but not least, if you are a racist you can fuck off. This guy has an accent.. Well so do people from Brooklyn. Get the fuck over it. This guy is going to own these songs with a little work. Jeff did a great job but most of us know it was just not the right voice for this material. Yes Jeff owned the stage and did a wonderful job but I have to agree with Neal and Jon about this one. Yes, they did a fucked up thing by letting him go like that but do we really know what the fuck is going on ? Most of the shit is just speculation. Hell, for all we know Jeff could have banged Jon's wife ! Jeff already made an album with the part of Journey that counts anyway....

Its about feel folks and this guy has the right feel for their classics. Can he write and can his voice stand up to touring ? That is all I care about because some new material with a true high tenor could be interesting for sure and motivate Cain and Schon to write songs like they used to.

The thing is LD, I don't care a thing about hearing someone else try to make Journey sound like it did with Steve Perry. I loved JSS with them because I like the way HE made the band sound with HIM. I would have stuck by Jeremey out of loyalty to him and because I like the way he sings, but I have no loyalty whatsoever to any of the rest of what's left of Journey. There is no reason whatsoever for me to want to hear anyone else sing the classics when I can hear Perry do them on CDs and DVDs and hear Jeremey do them live. Neither Journey nor Arnel has a thing to offer that I'm interested in.

I've watched all the youtube stuff... and seeing his vocal technique (or lack of) leaves me wondering.... I still hear him straining to hit some of the notes Perry easily hit. Arnel is gonna need a bunch of vocal training.... 90 plus dates will kill his voice...

Perry - the original high tenor... who hit all those notes effortlessly with that amazing singing technique.... had a serious REGIMEN... and we all know the 32 year old Perry of 1981's Escape release blow's Arnel away... soooo.....

At 39 years old, Arnel will have to replicate that regimen to keep his voice.... if he doesn't - his voice will be "toast" soon enough.

For what it is worth...while a newbie to posting...I'd have to be considered an "old shitter" that never took the time to figure out how to post to this thing.

I've learned much, laughed a ton and scratched my balding head more than once while reading the posts on this site. Journey's decisions and the following posts and what happens with (and between) posters plays out better than the best soap operas. It's great! I'm glad I found this several years ago. Still not sure about this posting and thread thing though. Avatars and photos...way above my messageboard skill.

If nothing else, the internet has sure created a way to fill the time between album releases and concert tours.

It has nothing to do with Arnels ability....but the fact that Journey has a certain image and that image isn't really supported with an asian singer. That's not racist. It's just the way it is. I've long maintained that in the entertainment business there's a cold, hard, truth that appearance is a huge factor. If it weren't, there'd be ALOT more singers out there that look like MeatLoaf. I think this move on several levels is a mistake.

Whether or not Arnel's salary requirements are similar to that of JSS's and Augeri's is more my issue. I've stated here and elsewhere, that I feel this is a case of 'outsourcing'....and that's supported with the aparenty story that Jeremey didn't want to drop everything and give Cain and Schonbag and answer right away. It's very clear that Journey wants a 'yes sir, I be working hard and fast for you Massa!' type singer. They can get that with a guy that isn't american. It's just the way it works out. I don't care who arnel is and what his qualifications are....he's going to make some sacrifices to get this gig. My position is that he will make more than Jeremey or Chalfant or whomever....and he will eat more shit from Schon, with less complaint.
