Anthony is no where near as good as a young Steve Perry. Anthony is good, but he doesn't hold a candle to Infinity-era Perry.

Not true at all. I have a FTLOSM bootleg where Perry's attempt at Open Arms is enough to make dogs howl. It is simply horrible.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see what you are saying here. Frankly, I don't think you know exactly what you are saying either. Anthony and Steve Augeri are both clearly two talented men with a high vocal range. Both are fully capable of singing the song, Open Arms.
If Anthony were to sing Open Arms and according to you, it would NOT be immitating, but rather, it would be performed in his own unique Anthony-style, then how isn't "Open Arms" currently being sung in Augeri's own unique style every night of the tour?
Look, I have bootlegs ranging from Augeri's debut in 1998 to as recently in 2004, I've also seen him live 4 times and not a once have I ever heard Augeri try to conciously emulate Perry's speaking voice, his stage mannerisms or anything of the sort.
It has always sounded to me like Steve Augeri singing with Journey.

There isn't any. In fact, I agree with you, I too, am rooting for Anthony. Easily, the most talented male vocalist on the show.
