Bigger then they are now

Which current band member most likely stands to achieve more notable success in his career then where it currently stands.

I will say this much, even if it never materializes, both Neal and Jon have the talent.
Though I think, if any of them, Neal might be the one to attain the name-brand notoriety he so desires.
The grammy nom was a big break for him.
A few more personal victories like that and he is outta here.

So, your continuing insuniation is that he will leave the framework of JRNY to do this (Neal) b/c it's a sinking ship?

I'm not insinuating jack squat, I am reading the writing on the wall.
When Neal starts giving his best, most melodic Journey-sounding material to his side gigs over Journey, then that is a definative red flag right there.

I just don't think Neal is passionate about this band.
Many people have ascertained just as much.
But that was not the point of this thread.

The band just released one of their best albums ever and finished a long tour. I think it's safe to say Neal has plenty of great material to go around. And he will continue to write and play more.

Neal's been handing off material since Perry uncermoniously sent them on Sabattacal in 1986. It's not a new development, herego not cause for alarm. Best is in the ear of the beholder, too.

Hi.

One post a day...Believe me, I want to get in and brawl, just too happy on drugs to do so...

The ship has already taken on water...

I can read the writing on the wall from my bed......It is loud and clear.

I voted Deen. I believe he can have a bright future in singing. Jon and Ross will retire. Neal won't ever get bigger than Journey...Steve? well, nevermind.

Neal started handing off material post-1986 because Journey ceased to exist at that point. in case you forgot, Journey does exist now. It has for eight years. I don't care what contrived spin you put on it, there is no excuse for Journey sounding songs like "Believe in Me" to go to Hagar or Soto over Journey. Period.

Yeah, so much so in fact, that he had to resort to a cover tune for the last album.
C'mon.
Quit with the subterfuge.

Didn't you rank Generations as one of your top 3 Journey albums? Not trying to get into anything with you. I am just saying that they put out a great album, so I don't really see the problem.

Deen's future after Journey is as a hired stick slinger not as a singer.
Steve could sell more solo albums than Kevin Chalfont if he wants.
Jon has done some great music outside Journey but should do another vocal album as the light jazz instrumental piano stuff seems to sound repetitive.
Whatever Neal does will be incredible but not as successful as Journey so his desire to be a household name still typecasts him as the guy in Journey.

Deano, why so down on Augeri? Would Perry sound better live?

Maybe, but he would be foolish not to try his pipes out. He needs to learn how to really sing first though.

Not on talent he couldn't. These two aren't even close. Journey picked the wrong guy.

Jon has done some great music outside Journey but should do another vocal album as the light jazz instrumental piano stuff seems to sound repetitive.

Yeah, Jon is incredibly talented, but the question was who could still make it big time. Cain will never be big..

Whatever Neal does will be incredible but not as successful as Journey so his desire to be a household name still typecasts him as the guy in Journey.

That's what I was trying to say about Cain.

Deano, why so down on Augeri? Would Perry sound better live?

Absolutely. Perry, even today, would sound better. Yes, I have done a 180 on this, and I admit, I was wrong.
I can't stand Augeri anylonger. In fact, I can't listen to anything Journey with him singing on it.

Neal is the only one, and that would be with a Planet US or SS reunion that somehow really took off. Or if he dedicates himself to instrumental music the way Satriani and Vai have, any of those possibilities still won't eclipse current Journey in terms of $ or numbers.

Deano, why so down on Augeri? Would Perry sound better live?

Why has your opinion on SA changed when he has just done his best tour and best album vocal?
And regarding Perry, have you heard anything from him since his stellar World Series performance?
Have you found out that Perry never lost it and that Neal kicked him out of Journey despite his wanting to be involved?
You've never held anything back before.

If you've given your word not to talk, I can respect that.
Otherwise I'd expect the same no punches pulled Deano.

I get the feeling though, that you feel that Augeri has done something more than just dissatisfy you with his performance which surprises me because I felt that if anyone's character in the band would be called into question, it definitely wouldn't be his.

Glad you're doing better Dean, and hope that you will stick around here.

This is the last time I will comment on this...

I promised myself I wouldn't talk...

I don't think I will be like I was. I feel somewhat humbled, and not ready to insult, assalt and go crazy in a music forum anylonger. After what happened to me, strange as it may seem, but true as it is, I have a little different view on things, and people. I need to be more understanding and not so aggressive.

Actually, the ENTIRE band has left a sick feeling in my stomach, and I seriously am considering forever retiring the band from my listening ears.

I really have wrestled with this feeling I am having, and have contemplated every possible scenario, and I have settled on saying nothing. However, that may change in the forseeable future. Again, I promise to shut up on this from here on out.

Glad you're doing better Dean, and hope that you will stick around here.

The only reason I am doing better is because I am at home. I can't hardly walk...It's a challenge to walk to the bathroom. I will stick around, but my activivty will obviously be limited.

Thanks

I understand, but I was referring to the always forthcoming opinions which I most always agreed with, not necessarily the aggression, though I often thought it was justified.

I hope these issues can be resolved to the point that you'll again be glad to be fan----unless that means Perry returning.

Dude, I don't think I am alone in saying I haven't a clue what you're moaning on about.
This thread is about which member(s), if any, of Journey are primed to explode. If u find this subject matter to be off-putting to the point of contemplating swearing off this forum forever, then I kindly suggest you take it up with your psychiatrist.

I'm sure moaning.

Exactly. Dude, why do you care what I write anyway. Instead of writing cryptic messages, just call me a liar. I would respect that.

And secondly, since when is my word considered gospel? I am just a loudmouth full of shit type of guy.

No biggies.

Plain and simple, Deano's story and his "inside Journey information" are full of holes... swiss cheese... get it? He's all of a sudden a changed man and swearing off Steve Augeri and the current Journey when for the longest time he buried everyone who talked negatively about the band? Sure.

You know what I find funny? My brother lives in Oceanside, 4 miles from Carlsbad and I asked him about the supposed train accident. Guess what? He didn't hear a damn thing about it. The North County times / Californian, a newspaper from that area doesn't have anything in it. Don't sit here and try to bullshit me that something like that wouldn't hit the news in that area. It did when a train hit a car.

You know what? If you've got information about the band, either spew it or shut it. There's no purpose to the 'Trust me about this, the ship is sinking' shit. Either talk or shut the fuck up. People here still like the band and may be concerned about the future of them.

Deano has been nothing but an attention whore since I've been on this board. The times where he was drunk, the times where he went completely overboard on someone. It's all for one thing: Attention.

I don't buy the train story, I don't buy the 'inside Journey information', and I don't buy this 180 degree turn.

He's just as bad as these UnPerry assholes. Consider me off 'Team Dean'. I'd rather not be here than read the continuous line of shit some of you are shoveling.

Again, sorry. This does not compute.
Even *if* Dean's information was erroneous, how would that compel you to swear off the forum forever? Dean is under no obligation to tell anyone anything.
In fact, there are people that browse this board every day with even more information then Dean. I'm thankful Dean leaves behind the trail of breadcrumbs that he does.
