That's what I thought. I've seen them twice since 98. How many times can you see the same old songs sung live and stay sane?

Dude, I actually like the hits....
But Christ, they have enough hits to keep it fresh. How bout axing Escape, Ask the lonely for Send Her M Love and say After the Fall.
And for God's sake, cut power to Valory's mic.

I think EVERY setlist should be different.
Take Springsteen; He submits the setlist an hour before they go on, and their list is longer than Journey's. This keeps the band on their toes..They never know what to expect...except for maybe Born to Run..
Journey should do that.
It doesn't matter what we think anyway.
I say bring back the golden Goose, tour and say goodbye with class.

And I wonder, would you enjoy hearing Perry sing those "same old songs?" Did you see the last tour?

Yep. But for just one tour though. Because his voice is not good now. His voice wouldn't be the draw. He would be because people that liked Journey a long time ago have an emotional connection with him.

Lasy comment from me here.
I heard the Spectrum boot today from 86.
Perry was phenominal. Absolutely incredible. Ad libbing, extra chords, etc..
Look, can't we be honest here? Let's drop the niceties, and bullshit for just once. BT'ers, pull up a chair.
Augeri simply does not have it anylonger. Great guy, awesome guy, just done...Schon, Cain; Superb..none better. Deen; excellent; but a lead singer in this band simply doesn't have the life expectancy of more than 7 yrs..
I defy anyone to PROVE to me that Augeri can bring it at this level. it simply cannot happen.
Irving, Herbie, Barouck, BT'ers, MR'rs, whatever. Don't ya think there is a reason I am taking this stance? Dee Dee Dee.

Here's the problem:
Everyone hears the Vegas DVD, Arrival, Red 13 and Generations and then think this Augeri guy is brilliant and sounds very much like S.Perry.
But it's a fake perception. An illusion.
Augeri doesn't really sound like that.
All of the aforementioned official recordings have been tinkered in post-production to give him the power, strength and smoothness to his voice that he lacks on stage. Some songs he is good on (Lights, WITS) but for far too many of them he is just plain unqualified.
Go listen to his live tracks on the Tyketto album.
THAT is a fair representation of Augeri.
I'm a fan of Augeri, I'm just not really a fan of Steve Augeri in Journey.
At the very least, the band should write songs tailor-made for his pipes. But all of the songs (Higher Place, Place in Your Heart) are really suited for a high pitched tenor and that isn't Augeri's forte.
It's as if Jon and Neal write songs pretending Steve Perry never left.

I agree. For instance on Arrival he sings ok,but sometimes I got the impression that someone`s pointing a gun to his head in order to make him hit the high notes.I guess Augeri had no choice but go along with the "filling Perry`s shoes" thing. I think that`s what killed his voice for the most part.Plus he is 8 years older, right?
Hm...I wonder if vocal exhaustion is something that happens to all the Journey lead singers?

"All" meaning both Steves.

This is true. I think with Arrival, the gun pointing was done by Sony.
This may be totally wrong but with Generations, I got the feeling that Neal and maybe even Jon had little interest in being in the studio. Neal almost seems obsessed with touring, with little regard to the stress it puts on a vocalist.

Alimony is a bitch.
Couple that with the fact that Neal's in the red over SoulSirkus and it makes perfect sense why he is all about staying on the road indefinately.

Let me qualify this statement if I may....
I don't think Neal and Jon are against being in a recording studio in general. I just don't think Neal is all that excited to be dawdling about in a studio with the current incarnation of Journey. I mean, what for?
Nobody outside of the niche village here at MR.com really gives a hoot about this band's musical output.

And even less care about his solo work. What could he be doing that would be more successful, besides starting a real supergroup with Sammy and Michael Anthony?

100% agree here. Although I don't really care for We Will Meet Again, it worked for Steve. Kiss Me Softly had a great feel to it. Livin' To Do worked. Butterfly is close, but it is interesting that Steve didn't sing that lower since he did write it. Walking Away From The Edge does it as well. But most of what Journey records seems to have Steve pushing the upper limits.

Neal Schon doesn't release instrumental albums expecting them to set the Top 40 Biboard charts ablaze. They're targeted to a much narrower audience. Journey's albums used to have broad appeal and now they no longer do. Therefore, it's no longer worth Neal or Jon's while to devote the time or enery towards releasing new Journey product. The whole band has been very apathetic about their future since Arrival went kerplunk.

That doesn't really make sense since you can be pretty certain that Perry would never sing any of the songs wrtieen after he left.

Well, in this stage of Neal's career, I think he does what he enjoys and money is secondary. He seems to love touring with the guys in the band, and I am sure they kick around a lot of ideas while on the road. So future albums will probably happen as long as the tours do. I'll be they distribute their next one the same way they did Gens.

To write songs that are more suited to Augeri's voice, as you said.

I think I'd would be an interesting idea to write some songs on the road, record them live at the shows, create an album or EP of those performances and distribute it on the next tour in the same fashion as Generations.
On second thought, maybe written and rehearsered before the tour.

That is a very important question that I hope they are considering.
Why are they staying together? I think the biggest reason is because at least three of the current members still need to make money.
It's obvious that Neal's heart really isn't in Journey now. If it was he would not have started Soul Sircus. By the way, I'm not blaming him for not having his heart in Journey now. I would think it would be difficult to want to put all your effort into something that will never be poplular again.
I'm still hoping for a long shot. There is still a possibility no matter how improbable that possibility is.
