Great vocalists, powerhouse pipes...........

Just curious, who else do you all think are great vocalists? Who has powerhouse pipes? Who has great range? Male and/or female? Or you just plain dig their voice?

Steve Perry of course top of my list (best powerhouse pipes and range)..... and I think Steve's female counterpart for the 80s would have been Pat Benatar for powerpipes and range.

Others include Freddie Mercury, Elvis, Sam Cooke, that guy from Queensryche, Ann Wilson, Amanda Marshall, etc.

Ronnie James Dio
Joe Lynn Turner
Glenn Hughes
Elvis Presley

No arguements with what you posted either.

John Farnham. He's an aussie, maybe you are not familiar with him, but he's big. Ask Andrew here, Farnham without a doubt one of the best and powerfull singers today... of all time.

Everybody strungout said.

Add Melissa Etheridge, Annie Lennox, and that chick from 4 Non-Blondes. Plus David Coverdale, and Sebastard Bach in the Skid Row days.

I love Johnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde and Amy Lee from Evanescence too.

Come on...this is a no brainer...

Steve Augeri.. That dude NEVER missed a single note last year..well, from the 8th show on at least he never did....Dude was flawless. He was so good in fact, I could swear he sang the song the same way every night, which is so hard to do..I never recall the "Great Steve Perry" being able to pull that off...but Mr Awesome sure as fuck did it. Too bad he came down with a throat infection....I was so looking forward to him singing Trial By Fire acapella next year..I have no doubt, he could pull it off.

Powerhouse vocals, huh...

Well, you already mentioned my two faves, Freddie and Espee. And a few of my others (Kate Bush, Annie Lennox…)
But I also love JSS, of course, and Chris Daughtry, Cristina Scabbia, ...
Andrea Boccelli.

I'm sure I'll think of more, lol

U have stuff he did live other than on AI? Oh man. Id love to hear that. I keep listening to his AI stuff over & over. I HATE country music but I even love the way he did country night...damn. Oh and his Innuendo is incredible. Not to mention is Hemmorhage & Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman. He was so sweet w/his lovely wife too. I bought his album w/his band & loved it. I wanted to cry when he got voted out. I just think old biddies started watching this yr more than the young people. They weren't gonna vote for a rocker. I loved the audition songs Taylor Hicks did (a change is gonna come & swanee river rock) & he nailed first cut is the deepest (I also like his solo album & bought that too--good tunes on it) but he was forced to sell out along the way w/those stupid themes & he didn't have the versatility Chris did to make them his own. IMO Taylor deserved to make it to the finals yes. But it should of been Taylor vs. Chris up there not that stupid Katherine. Yeah I know. My opinion isnt worth a thing.

As for "strong voices" and not necessarily "good voices", Bruce and BA are two top strength voices.

Well, hell. Sounds like you have everything already. Cool. And actually, it’s a good thing, cause it takes my poor computer way too long to upload…

Here’s one live one you might not have. It’s not perfect, and it’s a little low, but it’s very pretty. LOVE the drums on this one.

Chris Daughtry, Air I Breathe

And here’s one of my faves from Miss Mahalia, who, imnsho, out powers them all. (Even Perry and Freddie…)
If this song doesn’t rip your heart out, you are one cold fish, I tell ya.

Mahalia Jackson, Soon I Will Be Done

Gotta go, enjoy!

Oh thank u so very much. I'm loving this Daughtry track. I don't have that 1. I only have the AI stuff. I wish I had more. I LOVE his voice. I hope I hear more of him soon.

D/l for Mahalia just finished. I'll listen to that next. I am not familiar w/her at all so I'm interested...

Listened to Mahalia. Now I usually don't like gospel music but she has awesome pipes. I had to play it about 5 times as it just really grabbed me. It's sad tho. Pity she's gone. Thanks for sharing that.

All you folks have named some REALLY great singers. I, however, am going to name a few that are not well known but I think should be; not because they are "Powerhouses" but because they have very distinct tones that draw you in:

Ben Burnley (Breaking Benjamin) - great band whose name-sake has a really cool tone, gets a lot of emotion across. Their 3rd album, Phobia, just came out and I don't know why this band isn't huge yet!

Kory Clarke (Warrior Soul) - Overly Political Singer from this early 90' hard rock band could just flat out wail, and again, lots of emotion. (that's what I look for in a singer).

Maynard - enuff said :)

Josh Todd (Buckcherry) - Sleazy Rock the way it should be... Axl couldn't carry this guy's jock strap!

Doug Pinnick (Kings X) - I LOVE this guy's gritty tone. Been a fan for years.
