"real deal ,,not just a pro-tool wiz?" huh, um sounds like neal is being blunt about augeri's ability on stage,, did he say that knowing the fans would read through it? wow,, im in the Soto camp but gee wiz man,, that sounded as harsh as some of us........schon sure didnt say,, "soto is the real deal !! but cant wait to get SA back up here,, "...OK time to move on ,, ever heard of Humanimal??!! rock on!..........

That's hilarious.

First off, the voice over is reporting the lie that Azoff put out. People actually believe all of a sudden Augeri got a throat infection? That is hilarious.

Love Schon..Dude just speaks the fucking truth. "I want a real singer, not a pro tools guy." Read between the lines.

He is the shit. He is like me, but with more talent and a lot more money. I got him on height though :lol:

I never blindly believed his voice got infected. If people bought into that, because I know Journey had no other choice but to say that. Fans will believe anything, they support the band! it's like a religion man.

Yes he is, BUT, he could be referring to Fraudgeri with his "Pro tools" comment.

Oh, I think that is a not so veiled shot at Augeri too, but they presented this as though he were talking about Journey.

I had been reading about Jeff Scott Soto for quite sometime on Andrew’s site [www.melodicrock.com]. I read a lot of rave reviews about him live. What I was really interested in was finding a lead singer like Sammy that was very strong in a live atmosphere. There are so many guys you can get that go into the studio with ProTools -- that can make you sound as great as you want -- then you get onstage with them and you realize they don’t have what it sounds like on their CD. And so everybody was raving about his live performances so I was real curious to meet him. At the NAMM show the year before, I got a hold of him through Andrew. Andrew gave me his number and I called him up and just ask him if he wanted to meet while we were down there at the Gibson party. , I had a signature model coming out and they wanted me to play at the party. Jeff brought his drummer and his bass player down and we sort of sketched out a little set, even though we didn’t have time to rehearsed. We did some Led Zeppelin and Journey songs and we did some Stevie Wonder and some blues. We played a little 45-minute set and the people pretty much went off; they loved it. Immediately, I knew we had some chemistry and that it would work. The night after that I went to see Marco Mendoza play and he was completely amazing and I realized I had seen him play years ago when I lived in L.A.

Thanks Barb. Throwing Neals interview in there does make it sound like he is talking about Journey. Considering the piece is on changing singers.

These quotes sound identical to the ones made while on tour with Sirkus.
However, with that said, there has been a palpable growing distaste towards Augeri in Neal's interviews for some time.

When on tour with SoulSirkus, Neal stated that "while Augeri is great for where Journey is at right now, Jeff is a monster". Of course I am paraphrasing, but the general sense was that Neal was putting Jeff's talents above Augeri's. In another interview Neal candidly stated that vocally "Augeri has had his ups and down as the band's lead vocalist". And then in an interview just prior to the UK tour, Neal actually explicitly stated of Augeri "No, he's not Steve Perry".

Neal seemed to be practically dogging Augeri, when in the past he used to say nothing but good things.

I would not be suprised in the slightest if u start to read/hear Neal distancing himself from Augeri in interviews.
Much in the same way he sorta pisses on Perry today.
Now he will air Steve's dirty laundry and say "he simply couldn't cut it" or something to that effect.

That sounds like Neal's MO to me. It's always amazed me that Neal would ever dog someone like Perry. While I think Neal is quite the accomplished guitarist, the reality is that most people never would have heard of Neal if Journey didn't become what they became! He should at least be grateful to Perry if for no other reason, that he is able to make a living loving what he loves to do!

True, he needs to get over himself.

What kills me is that he picked out Augeri... he should own up to his mistake instead of passive-agressively jabbing at it.

I think Neal takes jabs at Perry, not for his talents or voice but, for some personal reasons, behind-the-scenes type stuff. I think Neal, along with everyone else that listens to Journey, knows that Perry put them where they are today. But I think there is a lot of 'personal' resentment between the 2, Cain is involved as well. As for Augeri, I get a sense that Neal was starting to 'dislike' his talents more and more after Arrival. It seems like all this stuff has been building for a long time.
