Was just looking at the back of the Greatest hits cd and in the picture all the guys NS, SP, JC, RV ans SS are all standing around a microphone with headphones on looks like they might be sing harmonies for recording.

After watching a bunch of DVD's I have never seen Smith with a microphone for singing, did I just miss it or did he not sing in concert? Would that make Deen the only Journey drummer too sing ? That would then give them a five part harmony live, which sounds great!!

Just a question and kindda curious.

Great question. And does anyone know if he has ever sang lead on any of his solo records or anywhere else?

As far as I know, I've never seen SS sing at any Journey concerts. I've been to every tour since Infinity and there has never been a mic near his mouth....only on the drums.

I never got to see Steve Smith with Journey or otherwise "live". But I've never seen a mic in front of him for singing either. I guessed it was just a pic they took to make the group look like a group.

Yeah, I got ripped off when I saw them the first time. Had to settle for Mike Baird.

I think the guy that did alot of the recording for Journey on ROR Larry Londin think he passed away I thought I read somewhere

Steve Smith is actually listed as the drunmmer on The Eyes OF A Women and Why Can't This Night Go On Forever so those 2 songs had 4/5 of the band and Bob Glaub on Bass..why does that name sound familiar?

There was a pic taken of Journey where all the guys were at the mike in the recording studio in a cd, but that might of been staged for the picture. Who knows if Steve Smith did sing. It is on the back of the GH cd.

Nah, he was air drumming...There was probably a drum tech above the stage with strings tied to the cymbals. He would pull those and make the cymbals move and vibrate at the appropriate times.

Bob Glaub sounds familiar because he played with Perry either on his solo stuff or some such stuffs.

My first time was seeing the ROR tour as well, and while I wanted to see Smith, I didn't care who was on Bass at the time. Jackson and even Bairs did an admirable job considering.

I remember reading or hearing Perry maybe on Rockline saying that Larry Londin had passed away. I think it might have been his daughter who did the laughing on Running Alone? Does that sound right to the people who know anything about this?

Well, the last time I saw Vital Information (a few months ago) he DID do this vocalization thing while playing a clay pot. I have a drummer friend who told me what the vocalization *was* but damn if I can remember. Wouldn't call it *singing* actually, but my friends and I had a good time giggling over having found the solution to Journey's lead singer controversies. (Okay, it might have been the wine....)

He wasn't "scatting" was he!?!?!

a little OT, but Steve Smith is the NICEST guy. Went back stage too long ago to admit to, and he came up to US and made us feel so comfortable. I'll never forget it. They were all nice, but he really stood out.
