The version of "Only The Young" on the tribute CD I have made my ears bleed! It was flat out AWFUL! By the way, what dope would ever put Journey and "metal" in the same sentence????

That dope would be Island Records. This comes from their ad/article for this. " '80s Metal Tribute To Journey (Island Exclusive)"

What
in the Hell could be "Metal" about Tommy Shaw or Open Arms?
And Mickey Thomas? Good singer, I suppose...but "Metal"?
Just a thought...

For the record, dcvader, my post wasn't a shot at you. I am well aware of the title of the CD. Was merely making the point that Island Records is beyond CLUELESS to call any tribute to Journey "metal". It's as idiotic as anything I've ever seen! What's next..."The Metallica Easy Listening Tribute"?

The island exclusive part refers to my website. I had the exclusive on this disc a while back. It features 6 Exclusive tracks not found on other tribute discs. Its an ok release, nothing that's going to top the original recordings, still fun to listen to.

Can someone post a link to one of the tunes that Kelly Hansen sings from the Journey Tribute CD? I'd enjoy hearing it.

That would be great...btw, the referenced review written here on Melodicrock is a totally different set of singers...so this is completely new? Available on iTunes? (that should provide a preview)

Kelly Hansen sounds great on those two cuts! Very nice. My son listened to them with me and said they sound "different, but good!"
It's nice to hear someone singing those tunes without straining.

Part old, part new. Cheap excuse for a re-hash.

With all the names attached to the updated release, you gotta wonder why this turned out so bad. Oh well

I have to wonder why Hansen was never tapped to be frontman for Journey. My god, that guy brings his own definition to the two songs I heard while doing justice to them at the same time. What a talent! It sounded effortless. Absolutely beautiful.

Listen to the Kelly Hansen tunes. To me, that's worth the price of the CD, which I just purchased off of Amazon.

It's just ok! No one can sing like Perry! This is just a cheap immitation! Not buying it!

That's fine. Don't buy it then. I don't care. I never said Hansen could sing like Perry. I said he did the songs justice and he didn't sound like he was straining. I think Hansen's efforts amount to much better than a "cheap imitation" in my opinion. Like my opinion won't change yours, your won't change mine. I like Hansen's singing quite a bit.

The other thing is, the backing band is lame. It would be one thing if it had a band that brought the songs to life. To be fair, I'd have to listen to the whole thing to get real specific with a critique, but what I did hear sounded like filler music for a made for tv show. As if it was cheaper to get a recut track from another set of musicians. Did Sharon Osbourn produce this??

Never heard of Hurricane, Larry.
Never heard of Kelly Hansen until I listed to the two Journey songs he covered.
