Jeff, I read somewhere on the 'Net that you were involved with Stryper? Is that correct and if so, in what capacity? Michael Sweet had/has a phenomenal voice and I enjoyed listening to the group. Just wondering what your involvement with them was...

That's wild! I'd like to know, too. I was a bit of a Stryper fan back in their "To Hell With The Devil" days. Michael Sweet could really tear it up.

Man, if true JSS is all over the board. Is there a bigger contradiction (not in a bad way) than Stryper and Skrapp Mettle?

Didn't Stryper tour with Slayer earlier this year?

I can imagine JSS in one studio singing about Jesus, the running to the other studio to lay down the Skrapp vocals. Sounds like an SNL skit.

I think Bruce Dickinson would be a great producer for that...

He puts his pants on one leg at a time. Only when he does, he makes gold records.

This is too crazy. I have never heard this before. I do know that Brent (Jon's tech) had a stint in Stryper.
I used to work for Licorice Pizza and we had an in store with Stryper. Those boys used more auqa-net than I thought possible. Christians? Ummmm

Jeff's discography lists him doing backing vocals on Against the Law, & the Can't Stop the Rock collection.

I met the guys in Stryper during my Yngwie tenure, '85, loved their EP & so on...I was the 1 & only guest they had ever brought onstage to sing/duet with them at a show in I believe '87. In '90, don't quote me on the year, they asked me to sing backgrounds with them on the Against The Law CD as they wanted to add more 'beef' to their angelic backing vox from the past...this was to be their 1st secular album & they wanted it to have nuggets!
A year after, they were releasing a 'best of', Can't Stop The Rock' in which Michael Sweet had a duet vocal idea & he brought me in to do some repeat lead lines, ala BonJovi style, as well as stack the backing vox for the chorus on an unreleased track called Believe.
Still great friends with all of them, that's my Stryper connection.
On a side note, it was that session I met the legendary Tom Werman who was so impressed by my knowledge & speed of creating vocal choruses, from that day forward he used me to sing backings on all the records he produced until his retirement....which included the lead vocals on the Rock Star movie which he also produced.

Apparently, it was just supposed to be some music festival in Mexico where both bands were on the bill. Here's a quote from Michael Sweet about it...
"We found out a few days ago that Slayer pulled out of the Mexico Festival. According to the promoter, it was due to the fact that Stryper was on the bill. We only decided to take the show when we found out that Slayer was on the bill. We've always wanted to do a show/tour with Slayer in order to reach out to their fans/followers
If I were a Slayer fan, I would be ticked that they cancelled. Makes them look like wusses, cancelling because a Christian band was on the same bill.

It's funny because when Stryper first started, MAN did THEY get their share of a**-kicking from Christian Fundamentalist groups. Stryper took metal style music and put Christian lyrics to it AND they tossed Bibles to those in the crowd AND they gave testimonies of their lives during the concerts AND they wore outrageous getups like KISS, without the makeup. Now, they're getting rejected by a metal band? I guess there's no peace for Stryper...regardless of what they do.

Funny from someone that might actually appreciate Jeff's talent, but not from a scorned Augeri fan

They really didn't look THAT much worse than the rest of the ridiculous looking hairbands. Hell, they certainly looked better than those prissied-up she-men in Poison.

My father was a preacher when I was growing up and the only "rock" bands I was alowed to listen to were Stryper and Amy Grant. LOL He had NO idea that Stryper was that hardcore for Christian rock. I LOVED it and then fell in love with Perry's voice the moment I heard it on the radio. I think the first song I ever heard from them was Dont Stop Belivin..........shows you how large the rock was that i lived under!!!!! Thank god I'm FREEE!!!!!!
