I know many of you might have heard this song as there is a more produced version on the new Street Talk cd. This is from some Steve Perry demos I found and I have to say I have never heard him sing like this before as the produced version seems more subdued.. He tears it up !! On fire ! He gets a little carried away at the end however I dont think this was meant for public consumption. Awesome all the same.. ANyone know when this was recorded? His range seems high for Street Talk era.

I believe that's The King Biscuit Flower Hour performance with Tower of Power behind him and Journey - The same recording that "Good Times" came out of?

No, "Don't Tell Me Why You're Leaving" was the B side of a Street Talk single. This song doesn't appear on the King Biscuit Flower Hour SuperJam Show. :D

Yes, I have heard that version of "Don't Tell Me Why You're Leaving" too. It is fantastic!

Has anyone listened to the version of "Don't Tell Me Why You're Leaving" off the re-issue of Street Talk?? It is a little different, he ADDS just a little more to it, that gives it that extra special touch to the song, and HE sings it SO SPECTACULARLY!!! :D

"Don't Tell Me..." was the B-side of "Oh Sherrie" in 1984. :D

Don't tell me sounds NOTHING like Sam. Sounds more like Otis Redding. Sam died before that type of horn-based soul became big.
You want to hear something that sounds like Sam, play Good Times or Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'.
