Jeff - the FAN'S singer !

Jeff had an awesome response in the BT thread "Steve Augeri ... Lead vocalist of Journey". Once again, he shows why he is like no other. He responds to us. He understands our frustrations, our questions, and our gratitude to him. He was/is a fan, and he hasn't forgotten that.

He never instigates, but will defend himself when it is needed. I really like this guy :D !

Jeff, here's to hoping you are around a LONG, LONG time - because most of us think you are a PERFECT fit for the music!

Read it.
I appreciate that Jeff communicates with the fans, but his post simply toes the Azoff PR line.
Take this line for instance:

"When posting accusations to the band about what 'they did', realize the DL/J package that was made before they knew Stevie might be down."

The precarious condition of Steve's voice was known before this.
Within the early dates of the 2005 tour his voice was mangled to hell.
They could've easily reneged on the Def package, they simply didn't care.

Well, I can't argue with you there...

Actually, I just re-read the thread.
Jeff is kinda of in an impossible position.
Knipping it in the bud was prolly the best route to go.

I hope he realizes that thread was started by dribbling sponge-brained fools.
They are not even debating honestly.

I like Augeri, but "best vocalist in the business"? C'mon.

This is Jeff's post from there.

"When posting accusations to the band about what 'they did', realize the DL/J package that was made before they knew Stevie might be down. Cancelling it could have meant not lawsuits & lots of money to pay back based on months of promotion, ticket sales pre-sold, & heaps of returns but it would have jeopardized Def Leppard's side as well as again, the tour was sold as a package, not as Def Leppard with an opening act. This in itself made it a 'show must go on' situation' for both, it could have gone the other way as well, if Joe Elliott went down & they had to cancel out, Journey would have been in the middle of the lawsuits. Now you'll argue that if that were the case, there's no way Joe would have a replacement singer & you're probably right, but Journey chose to save both bands the h3ll they would both endure & brought in someone close, within the organization that could help get through it all, it's as simple as that. Journey did not boot Steve out because of his condition, he went home so the whole machine could continue without skipping a beat.
Regarding me not being right for Journey, I resent that statement in every way, there was no bigger Journey fan both inspired & influenced from 1979 onwards, than I. Just because my personal releases don't reflect the Journey 'sound' as I chose to be my own artist & not someone following footsteps doesn't take away my love & true sense of feeling for the band & their music. If these decisions are based on seeing/hearing me live, then that's a matter of opinion as again, I am not impersonating SP or SA, I am not even bringing in my twist on how I think things should be done. I am singing the songs as I always have when driving to Journey music in my car or in the shower...but I am putting the natural energy that comes with everything I do, which was also influenced by Master Perry!

Let's lay off the incinuations to the band, especially when the facts are not on your lap. There is nothing but respect from all corners to SA, myself & the band...it's not a firing squad or musical chairs here, these guys have bigger hearts than most other groups I've worked with or met, trust me!

Just for completeness, this was Jeff's second response, a little further down in the thread...

"Thank you & with that, I also respect others' opinions, everyone is entitled to them & just because I am out here with the guys doesn't mean everyone must love me or the idea of it all. It hasn't been easy for some who hold Stevie near to their hearts & for this I am extremely understanding of the high emotions here. I would have the same opinions if I saw yet another singer try to come into Van Halen, i would give a go & if it didn't work for me, I wouldn't continue with them, I am a fan of the music the same as you but also am a fan for the reasons behind the creations which in this case have to do with 2 Steve's

Thanks for listening, in the meantime, let's continue to rock this journey!"

Marty
