"Reading all of these rumours about whats in store for the future of Journey, it just makes me upset that the band would do such a thing to Steve. I understand that Steve Augeri was Perry's replacement, but Steve A. has brought so much to this band especially gaining new younger fans like myself. Steve has shown over the years that he could step up and not only fill Perry's shoes, but wear a pair of his very own. Steve A. is one of the best vocalist in the business, and is a complete inspiration to me as an aspiring young vocalist. I just can't comprehend why a band would continue a tour without their vocalist. I just can't understand that. As far as JSS, I totally respect you as a vocalist but singing Journey music is definitely not your style. I am sorry, but thats a fact.
I am sorry to say that if Steve A. does not return, I will not be attending another Journey Concert. I know its about the music, but after replacing lead vocalist so many times...its not about the music anymore...

Cancelling it could have meant not lawsuits & lots of money to pay back based on months of promotion, ticket sales pre-sold, & heaps of returns but it would have jeopardized Def Leppard's side as well as again, the tour was sold as a package, not as Def Leppard with an opening act. This in itself made it a 'show must go on' situation' for both, it could have gone the other way as well, if Joe Elliott went down & they had to cancel out, Journey would have been in the middle of the lawsuits. Now you'll argue that if that were the case, there's no way Joe would have a replacement singer & you're probably right, but Journey chose to save both bands the h3ll they would both endure & brought in someone close, within the organization that could help get through it all, it's as simple as that. Journey did not boot Steve out because of his condition, he went home so the whole machine could continue without skipping a beat.
Regarding me not being right for Journey, I resent that statement in every way, there was no bigger Journey fan both inspired & influenced from 1979 onwards, than I. Just because my personal releases don't reflect the Journey 'sound' as I chose to be my own artist & not someone following footsteps doesn't take away my love & true sense of feeling for the band & their music. If these decisions are based on seeing/hearing me live, then that's a matter of opinion as again, I am not impersonating SP or SA, I am not even bringing in my twist on how I think things should be done. I am singing the songs as I always have when driving to Journey music in my car or in the shower...but I am putting the natural energy that comes with everything I do, which was also influenced by Master Perry!

Let's lay off the incinuations to the band, especially when the facts are not on your lap. There is nothing but respect from all corners to SA, myself & the band...it's not a firing squad or musical chairs here, these guys have bigger hearts than most other groups I've worked with or met, trust me!"

That said.......I am really confused now......I was just starting to accept that SA is done and JSS is the official replacement. But now am I the only one who thinks what JSS just said in this post goes against everyone else saying SA is out? It sounds to me like what JSS just posted is exactly what the "official" word said it was....a temporary solution for a show that could not be cancelled.

Am I off base?

Honestly he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to pull punches. Seems to me he speaks what he wishes. So while I do understand what you mean, I still can't help but get that feeling from his post.

Well, this goes against some of what has been said by people here. Unless JSS is bold-faced lying, which I doubt, they don't all hate SA. If they hated him so much, would they have let him come to see them in NJ?

Though the first sentence does point toward the theory that the band didn't know about tapes, I still find that a stretch... which leads me to believe they didn't know "Stevie would be down" because they thought they would get simply away with it. Gotta get paid, right?

I have to say, JSS's posts are always interesting and his responses to accusations are classy, unless they are to HOTS. Good for him.

But he's GOT to pull his punches on that issue for now. He's probably leagally bound not to say anything solid until the band does. That's the way I see it anyway...

Yeah he's probably only allowed to say a certain amount.

I really doubt Steve will be back even though, 3 months ago (via a mutual friend) that was his feeling.
It is nice that to hear that there's no ill will between Journey and Steve. Neal's statements when JSS came
in seem to indicate otherwise (some protools comment) but he could've been speaking in general terms.
We'll see. It would be nice to know the entire story. Never will though.

as cool as the JSS response was, the part where he gets pissed about people speculating is kind of lame.
If people knew more of the real story, the speculation would stop. That rests with Journey in my opinion.
And it's only natural for people to read stuff into the whole matter.

Awesome response. Like I said before, he's in a class all his own. How anyone can say otherwise & treat him like some do is beyond me.

Journey lost me after Trial By Fire, I was just not into Steve A's voice, just didn't grab me. But I never in a million years would say anything harsh about him, esp. when he comes across as very classy & humble too. No need to trash the guy (or anyone for that matter) just because he's not someone else.

Question though: what is the deal with the tapes, or "tapegate" or "protools" I've seen mentioned? Sorry for the ignorance, but like I said, I wasn't into the Augeri-era, lol.

Um...I'll take this one. There is accusations out there (and many believe these accusations have in fact been substantiated) that Mr. Augeri was not singing live at many Journey concerts over the past couple of years. In terms of the "protools" comment made by Neal, I'm not so sure that Neal was referring to Augeri in that particular video. I saw the video and heard what he said, and he definitely did make the comment. Many people have said it was a fairly old video that Neal had done to promote a Soul SirkUS project. The video surfaced again with that same interview when Augeri was forced to leave Journey due to a "chronic throat infection".

Personally, I've never speculated on this issue and I'm not about to.

JOURNEY has reported that SA is taking a health break and JSS is temporarily filling in. I don't recall EVER reading ANYTHING from JSS or ANYONE here, there, or ANYWHERE that would lead me to believe or compell me to speculate anything different.

JSS's response to this particular post appears to continue supporting the original report regarding a SA health break, etc. It was nice that he commented regarding the contractual agreements which I would think to be common sense among anyone over the age of 13 however so much that's been ranted on message forums leans towards conspiracy theories, Tapegate, and the like rather than the REALITY which is that JOURNEY is ultimately a BUSINESS and subject to meeting certain business agreements.

I commend JOURNEY for keeping the show on the road AND their agreements with the DL/JRNY tour contracts. If JSS stays on board it seems to me that it will be because SA's voice doesn't recover. If his voice does recover I'm sure that the original report will hold true that he'll return.
