Found this interesting tidbit at BlabberMouth...
Any insights Drew???
TMZ.com reports that VAN HALEN has officially hired 15-year-old Wolfgang Van Halen — the son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen and estranged wife Valerie Bertinelli, and nephew of drummer Alex Van Halen — as the new bassist for the band.
Wolfgang replaces longtime bassist Michael Anthony, who left the band earlier this year. VAN HALEN spokesperson Janie Liszewski tells TMZ.com that Wolfgang, known as "Wolfie," has already joined his dad and uncle for rehearsals in the studio. Wolfie played dates with his father during the band's 2004 tour, and the song "316" on 1991's "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" was named for Wolfie's birth date that same year.
According to TMZ.com, the band is still without a lead singer, despite rumors that David Lee Roth might rejoin.

This is completely ridiculous. I used to think that David Lee Roth was the main villain in the band but the more I follow them, it's obvious that Eddie is the being the biggest jerk behind the scenes.
He was on Stern's show not long ago and kept saying that he wasn't going to say anything bad about the other guys who are in the band or used to be in the band and then he went on to bad mouth Roth, Hagar, and especially Michael Anthony. Anyone who knows the guys in VH will tell you that Anthony is one of the nicer guys in the business.
Van Halen is a travesty and has been for several years now. I think they'll probably reunite with DLR next year, considering they will probably be going into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

This is just sad- all the way around.
I feel sorry for Wolfie really- he's the one caught in the middle of all this fighting. I mean really- how can he say anything?- IT'S HIS DAD & UNCLE running the ship ( which is rapidly sinking IMHO!)
It's truly sad to see what was once a great band sink in to such a large pool of refuse.
Sad, truly sad.

Come on, MA's backing vocals are just as important to VH as Eddie's guitar tones...
It is sad, though...
Maybe Eddie is a big Ramones fan and has decided to truly make this band Van Halen,
i.e. EVERYONE in the band sharing that last name

This would be a terrible, nepotistic, self-indulgent manuever on Edward's part, all but negating the impact of DLR's long-awaited return to the fold.
Get Mad Anthony or get out....I still think the shadowy corporate suits behind this will insist on the original 4.
This, if it comes off, will be one for for Journey fans to monitor. Motley's ruinion with Lee has been monsterous. VH, if it comes together, will be on the level that only the Stones and U2 enjoy right now.
I don't think it will take place w/ Jrny b/c SP's done with it. But I DO think Clearchannel/VH1 or whatever conglomerate is going to dangle a trailer full of cash @ classic Jrny.

Yea, they're actually DOING that aren't they? Talk about unneeded. Michael solo has 10 x as many hits as Wham so what the hell's the sense?

2 over-the-hill, 80s Homos onstage will sell more tickets than just 1

I remember the Frankie Goes To Hollywood bands reunited show on VH1. Not bad actually, as were all of them. Extreme dissapointed b/c Bettancourt was standoffish.
They made the singer for FGTH seem like Mozart, though, for goddsake.

Without Anthony, there's NO great VH Backup Vocals.
Eddie is totally nuts. I gave up on them after VH III. AND I don't blame Cheron for that at all. I thought he was fine but the songs were crap.

I really feel sorry for all the VH fans who have been holding out for DLR to return to VH. All those years of hoping and as soon as it looks like they are getting their dream come true Eddie pulls this shit. Without MA this is no reunion. Mike may not be a lead singer but his BGVox are essential. Plus, he has been the only bass player in VH...he is integral. He balanced the lead vocals (helping DLR's and complimenting SH's) and he balances the drums. MA holds down the bottom end...

God, if I was Valerie I would take my son as far away from that ......well his dad as soon as possible. She don't well her son may fall into the same problem his dad has.And I'm trying to be very nice about this and word it very carefully.Van Halen was and could possibly be great again, but man Eddie needs help and only Eddie can fight this demon. At all the timeless music these guys have created through the years and then nothin! What a waste!

I was wondering the same thing...is she going along with this willingly?
That's awfully young, to be throwing your son into that world...although he'll be easier for Eddie to control, as opposed to MA

I wonder how Wolfgang and Eddie will handle the boos and people yelling "We want Mikey" night after night? Because there WILL be a lot of that going on...no matter if the kid is good or not.

I don't want to misquote, but didn't Hagar once say that MA's background vocals were the sound of VH? Either way - I hate to see MA go.

Quite the opposite in reality - Dave is on board and mgmt are shopping the 2007 tour to promoters. No bassist however has been named as yet.
