Watching Leppard - Baltimore

They look tired and Elliott looks old. Not running this in the Leppard thread. Hey, I'm a fan too. But they sound less than good. I'd love to post a clip of Journey and Leppard back to back. It's not even close.

Joe Elliott is gargling with razorblades and seems to like the McDonald's drive thru. Sluggish at best. I can also show a boot from the X tour where the band really did rock from the same venue. They suck here. :?

Poor guy, lol. I read he wears a back brace on stage so that may be hindering how much he moves? Not sure if it's true or not.

I'm a huge fan of theirs, but live I watch Sav 99% of the time, lol. :)

I've seen a lot worse (Guns N Roses), but Leppard just look tired. Major props for making the setlist better (No Make Love Like a Man) - that helps.

I've seen Def Leppard tons of times. 3 times in this arena alone. This tour just doesn't match up. Just my opinion. The footage is nicely shot though.

I've always been a fan of both Def Leppard and Joe Elliot. That said, the last few times I've heard the guy live, he's really sounded a bit rough. He never really had soaring vocals, but, I always thought he had a solid voice. Perhaps his old age is catching up with him. I know he was a smoker for many years (not sure if he's quit or not, at this point), so I would imagine that smoking has probably hurt his pipes, as well. I've always been astonished when I hear any vocalist smokes. That seems insane to me! It seems hard enough to keep a voice in shape, even if you don't smoke.

I have a client who recently saw Journey and DL down and Florida, and he said it wasn't even close between DL and Journey. He said although he was a fan of both bands that Journey "stole the show". Luckily for Joe, he's put together a pretty solid career and catalogue of music, so the retirement income should be a bit better than social security would be :D

Yeah, I can't stand Make Love Like a Man, lol. And no Joe does not sound like he used to, & he's never had soaring vocals IMO either.

Can't vouch for DL in Baltimore, since I wasn't there... but, Make Love Like a Man sucks and always will, but in June, DL kicked Journey's ass before Jeff came on board!

In June, Journey was hampered by a guy that couldn't cut it anymore. I went to opening night in Camden and a few days later in Hershey, PA

Despite what anyone says, Augeri was pretty damn good up until 2003 or so. I am not a basher.

Hey, AR..I went to that show too...flew up from SC...what was SA doing behind the piano? looked like he was using an inhaler...poor guy was really having a hard time that night....Deen sang most of the songs...must be difficult for him to lose his source of income and not be able to do something he obviously loved to do...G

And there was a time where I thought SA did it pretty well. Should have just known when it was time, that's all.

Did Augeri have asthma?

Augeri's reliance on an inhaler was noted by fans for quite some time.
Some said he had asthma, but more than likely Jeremy's hypothesis was correct: it's some type of vocal steroid.
Fans were shocked how often he used it at the start of the '05 tour.
It was even chronicled on a review that ran on the front page of this website.

Then, miraculously, Augeri ceased using his inhaler for the majority of the '05 tour.
Not only that, he sang flawlessly, too.

Sorry, I'm late replying.
I thought Joe sounded ok, alot better than last year. Last year I remember Joe struggling through alot of the songs. Maybe the shorter setlist helped.

God, I hate that song.. Make Love Like a Man, whose idea was it to add that to the setlist? With as many good songs that they have, why on earth would they sing that?

Melissa, sorry Sav does nothing for me. ;)
I was in front of Viv and he seemed like he was bored and just going through the motions.
I found it more appealing to try to figure out why damn cellphone didnt work then sit and watch him.

At least I got my phone call. :P

Joe isn't hitting the high notes like he used to, but I still thought he sounded good at the Fresno show. And they hardly looked 'tired'. Joe was all over the place. Viv doesn't do a THING for me....and neither does Sav. I just don't get the whole Sav lust.

Well, well- Looky who's here * waves at Kim*

I thought Joe sounded really good in Orlando too. But I have to agree with Ratgirl- Vivian looked like he was just going through the motions. Not at the beginning of the tour ( West Palm Beach) but at the end.
Could be he's sick of the GH-type sets as well. I mean- 2 tours of the same-old, same-old is enough to make anyone bored.

Hey, hey, hey, watch what you say about Sav now! lol

Actually in Orlando the sound was AWFUL, I have no clue if it was the system or what, but Lynn & I were practically deaf after that one.

Hey- I didn't say it wasn't LOUD!

Actually, I was off to the side a bit- in front of Viv. So maybe I had a different perspective than you two ( You were right up front- right?)

And sorry- Sav doesn't "do it" for me either. 8)

I don't know where Rat was (where were you??? lol), we were more near Phil. It was REALLY loud, lol. Even Journey was L-O-U-D, which don't get me wrong, I love loud, but something was really skreechy (if there is such a word, lol) during both sets, didn't hear that at the other shows we saw.

Fine, I'll admire Sav all by myself, lol. 8)

What??? You dont know where I was at? I just said I was in front of Viv and Neal all night.  I dont think it was loud, but maybe I'm deaf from the previous shows I went to. In NC we were on Phil's side, right in front of the speaker and if I wouldnt have brought ear plugs my ears would probably still be ringing.

You can have Sav.. ;) He just seems most unapproachable of them all.

I just got a coupla boots from the Adrenalize era (Abs, you're a gentleman and a scholar) and they were PHENOMENAL.... I'd like to hear what they sound like now and form a conclusion as I rolled after Journey's set in Camden (Augeri just OK, not great not terrible, more than usual help from DC).

I thought Elliot was in pretty good voice on Yeah! (than album title's as cringeworhty as AR feels Make Love Like A Man is), not Hyseria era Elliot, but good nonetheless.
If I think of Perry, I look at this era as Elliot's vocal equivalent of FTLOSM, TBF sound, which I prefer out of perry.
