This is fun, so let's pretend you're hearing ROR for the very first time. Let's rate it!
Girl Can't Help It: 9.5 (catchy unique-sounding song)
Positive Touch: 5 (cool mid-80s beat, not a bad song but not great)
Suzanne: 9.5 (great beat & vocals, very catchy)
Be Good To Yourself: 9 (catchy chorus)
Once You Love Somebody: 5 (made for Miami Vice, starts good but never takes off)
Happy To Give: 8 (beautiful song, haunting)
Raised On Radio: 1 (nothing special)
I'll Be Alright Without You: 10 (love it, great keys & guitar, awesome vocals, nice backing vocals)
It Could Have Been You: 1 (boring, made for St. Elsewhere)
The Eyes Of A Woman: 10 (excellent song, haunting, sexy)
Why Can't This Night Go On Forever: 10 (what a beautiful song)
Overall: 7.10

With this...I just gotta say "The eyes of a woman" is the WORST off this album. Followed closely by "BGTY". Just SICK of the fucking song.

A bad middle of the road pop record. It doesn't even sound like a Journey record. As a Perry solo album 5/10, as a Journey record 1.5/10 and that's just for Perry's voice.

Now we're talking, JRox! Good to see we're moving on to the Journey masterpieces....
Girl Can't Help It: 10 (from the heart-lift of the opening chords to the harmonies at the end...this is 80s rock/pop at its absolute best)
Positive Touch: 9 (easy to mock with its cod-Motown rhythms...the saxophone...and so on...but Perry is on fire on PT...and the passion and melancholia of his performance in the last third takes this song
out of the ordinary. Sure, it's still Journey at their cheesiest ... but to be honest...if we didn't like corny rock music none of us would be here)
Suzanne: 9.5 (pure Journey...and the glistening ROR production is especially great on this song...and you've got to love the fact that it's about Cain's ex-wife becoming a porn star)
Be Good To Yourself: 10 (what an immense solo from Schon...one of his true classics)
Once You Love Somebody: 7 (as JR Rox said...this is very "Miami Vice" but for me it gets an extra point for that reason alone...and in fact the whole album sounds like it was designed to be listened to on a coke dealer's yacht)
Happy To Give: 9.5 (Jonathan Cain has said - rightly - that this is Perry's finest hour....but I knocked off half a point because it's too short and doesn't feature a solo from Schon)
Raised On Radio: 7 (doesn't quite come off...but was never meant to be taken that seriously)
I'll Be Alright Without You: 10 (moody, soulful, classy...it needed a video featuring the Voice looking out of some venetian blinds at a cityscape at night...but the song itself is perfection)
It Could Have Been You: 8 (a cheeky album track which gets an extra point for the pure AOR cheese of "I can't wait all my life/ On a street of broken dreams"....the righteous delivery of absurdly cliched lyrics are a big reason why I love this band so much)
The Eyes Of A Woman: 9 (such a deep, melancholic and spacious sound - which so many classic AOR songs had in the mid-80s - a golden age for the genre, I reckon)
Why Can't This Night Go On Forever: 10 (no other band can produce such thunderously over-the-top, grandiose ballads - and this one is right up there with Faithfully)

This is my least favorite Journey album, so my ratings aren't very high.
Girl Can't Help It: 5 (OK song, fun to sing along with)
Positive Touch: 1 (just don't like this one)
Suzanne: 2
Be Good To Yourself: 8
Once You Love Somebody: 2 (yawn)
Happy To Give: 2 (yawn again)
Raised On Radio: 2 (a bit cheesy for me)
I'll Be Alright Without You: 4 (like the vocals on this one)
It Could Have Been You: 1 (yawn)
The Eyes Of A Woman: 4 (boring, but gets a 4 for Steve's voice)
Why Can't This Night Go On Forever: 10 (love this song, walked down the aisle to it)

Girl Can't Help It: 9.5; great song- instant classic
Positive Touch: 3; good song until the sax solo (where's Neal?)
Suzanne: 8.5 another good song that could have been better
Be Good to Yourself: 9; classic Jrny sound
Once You Love Somebody: 2; should have been on a Perry solo record
Happy to Give: 1; possibly the worst Jrny song ever- instant skipper
ROR: 8.5; classic Jrny sound
I'll Be Alright W/O You: 9.5; great song
It Could Have Been You: 9; another great song
The Eyes of a Woman: 1;another song that should have been on a Perry solo record, another instant skipper
Why Can't This Night Go On Forever: 9.5; one of my all time favorite ballads. I remember hearing this song for the first time and thinking that this was their way of saying goodbye. Neal's solo is one of his best ever.
Overall: 70.5/110
64 Average
As a SP solo record, not bad, but not up to Journey standards by any means. You can really tell that SP had total control at this point.

NIG, I can understand your ratings for all the songs with the exception of "Why Can't This Night Go on Forever".
Anyway, I did this last night and though I won't go over each of the songs individually, I gave it a 6.6 out of 10. Out of the Perry/Augeri albums, I rated it ahead of "Departure", "Trial By Fire", and "Generations".

ROR is my least listened to Perry fronted Journey album. The sound is just too "pop" for me. So here goes...
Girl Can't help It = 5
Positive Touch = 4 Can't stand the lyrics
Suzanne = 5
Be Good To Yourself = 4 Too "I'm okay you're okay" pop psychology
Once You Love Somebody = 5
Happy To Give = 8 Beautiful vocals
Raised On Radio = 3 Too gimmicky
I'll Be Alright Without You = 6
It Could Have Been You = 5
The Eyes Of A Woman = 5
Why Can't This Night Go On Forever = 9 Beautiful melancholy song.
Overall rating of 5.4. I guess art is subjective.

Ok all u people who graded this album as Journey fans already, stop. Go right back & do it again. The point is to grade it as if u have never heard Journey before. (Niggy, Frostbite, something to hide, Liam, I'm talking to u here.)
Believe me, I am sick to my teeth of BGTY after the whole TG fiasco. As much as I love Perry's voice, I can barely stand to hear even him singing that song. But I rated it as if I heard the album for the first time. Play fair.
L~L~L get off ur lazy whiny ass & play the game, rate the damn tracks individually. I do NOT believe u would give each one 10. & yes we are bored waiting for a damn announcement.

The vocal acrobatics alone are worth an 8 or 9 at the
very least. Put down the crackpipe.

OK, to play by the rules as if I was a newbie to Journey- ratings stand as I made them before. But, if I was a newbie, and ROR was my first taste, it's a below average "pop" record and I probably wouldn't buy another Journey CD.

I'd have to agree with that. If all I had to judge Journey on was ROR I probably wouldn't buy/investigate another album. Just not enough songs on ROR that are my taste in music.

Compared to what, Maverick? Who would you say was average and above average?
Seems strange to me how ANY record featuring Perry in his prime could be considered inferior to an average pop record....
And it's strange too that WCTNGF got a rating of 1 earlier on....whereas the same poster gave WYLAW a 10. Yes, I'm talking to you Frostbite
