For the past 3 - 4 days I have been really giving the Talisman 7 CD constant play. The final track on this CD is a TOTAL masterpiece. Jeff puts sooooo much soul into this song. On the second verse when he sings:

' The Truth is soooo far aaarrrr away
Always play the senti mental fool '.......... It's just incredible what he does on this epic track. Its a excellent CD with an absolute classic final song.

So here is what I am wondering, Is Jeff just using Journey for a good payday and some decent profile?? It is sooo damn obvious that he is the TOTAL package. Won't he get sick of singing someone elses songs night in and night out. I know he is now being paid well, but afterall he is an artist. Artists usually want freedom of expression. How much freedom is he getting singing 'Any Way You Want It every night? He is still fairly young, but daily his window closes a little more. It's kind of like having Picasso..... paint houses.

At any rate if Neal and The Memorix Boyz have an ounce of sense they should somehow have Journey do Back 2 The Feeling and put it on their next CD. They also need to give Jeff TONS of freedom to do what he wants on their next CD.

Like Steve Perry was Jeff is the STAR now. The Memorix Boyz should embrace that concept.

I give Jeff two years top as a high profile well paid house painter.

I know what you mean. Some nice paydays might afford Jeff even more ability to do what he likes on his own. He is such a hard worker that I see him doing Journey and his own stuff on the side with no problem. More $$ from the cash cow will leave Jeff with better choices in the future. Won't have to worry about doing a project just to make ends meet. In the end, Jeff is an artist who cares most about the music. He would have given up long time ago if he wasn't driven by his art.

yogster,,, that talisman 7 is a great piece of work ,, i do see where your coming from ,, journey needs him more than he needs them ,, i do hope he got a swell contract.. and gets paid some decent cash AND is allowed to write his own material... the band needed a leader like perry was,, someone to drive forward,, i hope it works out that JSS gets that role and pulls the band forward,, 8) however , i see what your saying,, jeff will always have to have another outlet for his own works.. you cant just leave behind a catalouge of tunes , great tunes, that he has already done...

btw.. i kept looking for a little link to get me to where you got this information you wrote... you tx dudes are freaks,, 8)

Well said ya'll.I can only add one thing:

I dont think the main reason Jeff is in this band is to sing someone elses song and old classics. I think he is in here to give the band the energy boost they have needed for a while so they can get back on top and once again create songs that will be classic 10 years from now.
At the same time this deal will give him the publicity he needs for people to discover all the great projects and songs that he has been involved in the past 20+ years. Many of the Talisman songs wouldve been huge hits here in US if they were released and promoted.

Yeah, what Behshad said. I don't think Jeff has any intention of spending all his time singing someone else's songs. He's going to kick Journey into the 21st century.

In a way,you are right,Yogi...Jeff is now part of an established band and he has to adapt to certain rules.
Still,I'm sure he will never give up his solo ideas.
JSS is a very talented artist on his own,and that's why Europe loves him so much. However,it may be time for him to be better known in the States and I think he will succeed as the lead singer of Journey.

I don't believe he minds singing "someone else's" songs, first because they are Journey songs and he loves them, second because he is a fan of Steve Perry and he feels honored to sing them and third because singing the Classic catalogue helps him gain more vocal versatility and control over his voice (IMO)...Someone said once that singing a Steve Perry/Journey song is like taking a voice lesson.

All in all,JSS and Journey need eachother equally :)
