45 Million in the US

Well two years ago, Journey was at a paltry 40 million in album sales in the US, then 41 last year, and now they are up to 45.

Seriously, I wonder if the Generations hand outs counted toward this number? I recall hearing that CD's with a ticket are counted as a sale....

By the way,

KISS checks in at a staggering 22 million

They're getting outsold by some pretty embarrassing bands/singers.

VERY impressive considering Kiss doesn't usually have hit singles to have driven album sales.

I won't get into how the labels used to under report sales of certain bands to avoid royalty payments in the pre-soundscan era. That list has always been questioned.

International sales are also NOT included in that list.

True, that list shows Bon Jovi with only 33 million, and as we all know "100 million Bon Jovi fans can't be wrong."

Wonder what Journey's world sales are?

Unfortunately, Journey has only had 1 single which could be considered a hit in the past 20 years or so, since ROR  .

Dude, I can't remeber if it was '02 or '03. I was furious, I'm passionate about sports, but that's unacceptable to me.

You say last year Journey was at 41 million and now they are at 45 million? Given the sorry state of CD sales these days that is fucking impressive!!

Dave, I am thinking they might have been close to closing off another million on a couple records..I know they were close to topping 4 mill on Infinity, Evolution and close to topping 3 mill on ROR...Maybe all the back sales were thrown in the counting hopper and they hit another couple platinum milestones.....I wouldn't be surprised if GH had some huge impact either.

No matter WHAT the era, to have every record from Infinity to TBF inclusive go platinum is absolutely incredible.

They will get another big hit in sales when Perry does the 2010 re-re-remasters :D

What's the difference between Journey's platinum vs. non-platinum records?

I think you just unintentionally gave huge kudos to Steve Perry; and it is all deserved as well.

No problem at all giving tossing Kudos Stevie ILoveThickGravy's way.
The guy was an immortal frontman and a hell of a singer. I will buy the next record if there is one, long's as it's not a motown or standards cover album. What I fucking DETEST are the "Journey fans" who begrudge the band for carrying on with Augeri and JSS (And just so we're clear I'm not talking about either of our good pals Matthew or Enigma. Where the hell IS JohnEnigma, anyway?).

I posted this a few months ago:

Found a list of all-time WORLDWIDE album sales by artist. Here are the Top 20:

4129 The Beatles
2625 Led Zeppelin
2328 Hollywood Movie Soundtracks
2262 Elvis Presley
1759 Various (collections/label promo)
1508 Eagles
1453 Pink Floyd
1381 Billy Joel
1311 Elton John
1154 Barbra Streisand
1134 The Rolling Stones
1123 AC/DC
0956 Bruce Springsteen
0930 Kenny Rogers
0928 Journey
0897 Aerosmith
0876 Michael Jackson
0860 Simon & Garfunkel
0849 Van Halen
0839 Fleetwood Mac

This site has Journey at 92.8 million worldwide. What's even MORE perplexing is the breakdown. It's as follows:
Frontiers: 32.4 million
Escape: 19.8 million
Greatest Hits: 13.0 million
Infinity: 7.2 million
Evolution: 6.6 million
Departure: 6.3 miilion
Raised On Radio: 3.0 million
Trial By Fire: 500,000

I would have NEVER guessed that Frontiers is far and away their best selling album. However, the list appears to be very legit. Any thoughts?

PS Street talk was at 3.4 million

That list has to be off, San Juan.
Stictly speaking US terms GH, naturally is the biggest seller (at least outside ESC4P3) and while we dispute if TBF SOLD or SHIPPED platinum, it WELL exceeded 500 K.
Wether is "sold" or "shipped" that record is credited with at LEAST 500K more sales than that chart gives it.

Me either, I would have thought Escape or Greatest Hits would have sold the most.

I too thought of that, 13. I'm wondering if it a) either wasn't updated or that b) it may have be hovering around 900,000 and and has not yet hit platinum status. My guess is that it hasn't been updated since the album did so poorly....relative to what it COULD have done. TBF and Frontiers really had me shaking my head when I saw the list. Frontiers was HUGE in Japan....that I know for sure.

TBF shipped platinum in the US, but did finally reach 2 million recently according to RIAA.
